I disagree completely. It all starts and ends with the QB, something we haven't had in forever. Even if that means you sit him for the first year or two, you do it. You don't pass on any chance to take a QB this high, especially with Winston and Mariota there.
Exactly, it's not like you get a top 3 pick every year, you can't just pass on a glaring need when you finally get that high. Think about where the Colts would be if they traded down in 2012 to "stack their O-line and secondary". Who knows how long it would be before we get another chance to take a franchise QB.
Are we sure this is what we want? Geno Smith played his heart out for us. And as you can see, he now plays with no heart.
I'm not sold on Mariota however if we draft him we better do what's neccesary to develop him. Missing on a pick that high would suck.
Its always been my dream to play for the "________________ " and to have an opportunity to do my very best to give the fantastic fans at "_______________" stadium something to cheer for"
Anyone doubting Mariota should quickly turn on ABC. Destroying Oregon State. The dudes the real deal. _
Anyone salivating over Mariota should look at this http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=322730277
Well when that game happened people were calling Geno the surefire number 1 pick and the best QB in college. Mariota might be both of those things but I cant be sure he does anything similar at the next level. Anyone drafting him..or Winston with their 1st pick, is taking a huge risk.
I watched Geno for 3 years and it was all a mirage. His massive early season success his senior season was a a fraud beating up cupcakes like Marshall and James Madison (who knew James Madison played college football) and was inflated by screens and shovel passes to Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey who'd take them 80 yards for scores. By about week 6 no one was ever mentioning him again as the sure fire number 1 pick and if not for Idzik he might have been a third round pick. Every pick is a risk but to mention Mariota and Geno in the same sentence is just silly. Geno was not 1/2 the player Mariota was in college. _
Every prospect has questions /risks. If the Jets are going to wait for the perfect prospect , we won't be drafting a Quarterback until 2025. Andrew Lucks don't come by often, and I'm afraid that's what you're waiting for.
Im not waiting for a Luck. Because like you said those dont come around often. Maybe once every 5 years. And you have to luck out to get that guy , no pun intended. To me there is a no doubt future Pro Bowler at WR in Cooper and a future Pro Bowler OT in Andrus Peat. That is a much safer way then to bank on another rookie QB being "the guy".
