We got a good look at Smith and he is shit We got a good look at Vick and apart from being able to make the odd run....he is shit Let Simms finish out the season and get a good look at him.
Simms must REALLY SUCK in practice. He's the Qb of last resort evidently so unless both Geno AND Vick goes down, Simms will never see the field. Not as long as Rex is the HC anyways.
It's really confusing, the guy has a strong arm and quick release, sees the field well, has good play action... I'm guessing it's not the practice stuff, it's his personality. I've heard a couple of interviews, he sounds like a total doofus when they talk to him.
Simms or Smith - see if either of them has anything that would make you keep them around (though not as a future starter) - Vick isn't the long term answer and clearly isn't going to win many games anyway (and even if we did win a few, to what end at this point)
I was beginning to wonder if it was personal as well. Rex is coaching for his job yet he not only refuses to play Simms, the kid usually is inactive.
You see this issue SOOOO differently than I do, I don't know where to start. Let's just say after what we've seen already, there's nothing to base any realistic hope about Smith on.
One of hte most frustrating things about following the jets is I do not trust the decisionmaking process when it comes to who starts at Qb.
The only logical thing to do is start Smith. See if a few weeks on the bench did anything. We already know he is not the future, but we should find out now if we even want him as a backup or just cut bait altogether. The talk of Simms is Folly, he wouldn't even be in the league if it weren't for his last name.
Bingo! These knuckleheads running this show (Rex, Marty) can't seem to get it through their thick heads that they are done here. How about showing your next team you have the "stones" to shake things up and try new stuff...(start Simms). I don't care if Simms has the personality of a dish rag he deserves the chance to stink up the field just like the other two. You can't really comment that he "sucks" in practice because believe me...the 3rd team guy is getting negative reps...let alone zero. Hell, the 2nd string guy is lucky to see reps....let alone the 3rd guy. I'd be willing to bet even in training camp he didn't get a proper look with the right people. But that's just me and speculation. I'm on the bandwagon of he sure as shit can't look any worse than the other two ass clowns. Man, the Jets QB situation is absolutely...unequivocally the biggest piece of shit situation in the whole damn league as far as I can tell. Even St. Louis has a pretty damned decent backup/depth. Our whizz bang front office sure has their collective heads up their asses....BIG TIME! Start the kid...what the worse that can happen?
Folly? Really? 37 - 3 isn't folly? 31 - 0...43 - 23... I think you need to grab a real big cup of "wake the hell up" if you think starting Simms to see what he can do is folly. Starting Smith so he can get our receivers killed is folly. Hell, our whole QB situation is Folly... Pfffftttt....
I think we all know it's going to be either Vick or Geno. Rex hates making changes at the QB position. It took him forever to do it with Sanchez, and he didnt want to do it with Geno last year or this year at all. I'm open to letting Simms play out the rest of the season.
Totally agree, it makes no sense to say Simms must suck in practice. As you say who knows when the last time was he practiced with the first team? Like maybe last year? I guess he runs the scout team, but that's no way to see if he's better or worse than Smith, whose had way too many starts here already. I have nothing firm to bank it on other than what lawyers call course of conduct, but it sure looks like SMith has gotten relatively more time purely because of his draft status. Whatever the reasons up til now, though, I see no downside whatsoever to starting him. Give him a full week of practice with the first team. Also agree this is the worst roster situation in the whole league right now. I am starting to blame Vick on a personal level for part of it, btw. I can understand why he might be very unhappy with his position here, but if he's a professional, he would be looking better than he has. So start Simms. No downside, even a sliver of potential upside is worth exploring right now.
I think you need a bug cup of "wake the hell up" if you think staring Simms will solve any of our problems. He's 3rd on the depth chart and had to fight for his life to beat out Tajh Boyd for a reason. His dad had a great career but it's not happening for Matt..He's a 3rd string QB on the worst offensive team in football.
Yeah Folly -- The kid couldn't even cut it as a DI college player. If his name wasn't Simms there is absolutely ZERO chance he would even be on an NFL practice squad. Calling for Simms, calling for McElroy, calling for Ratliffe on and on and on. I get it this fanbase is so desperate to have an answer at QB they are willing to throw their hopes on a wing and a prayer on someone that absolutely is not NFL caliber.
Thank you, This isn't Tom Brady just needing a chance to start. He's been a member of this team for a while and couldn't make an impact. We cut him, 32 teams had the chance to sign him..32 teams passed and we put him on our practice squad.
I picked Simms just given I've seen enough of the other two. Reality is I wish there was a fourth option in the poll to hold QB tryouts like we do at CB. Maybe we can steal a qb off someone else's practice squad like Connor Shaw. What else do we have to lose?
