That's to finally eradicate that ridiculous alcove once and for all. The question is: WTF was it there for in the first place? Other than Fred Wilpon's cockamamie notion of adding character to the field.
The Mets will fire Terry Collins and hire Rich Renteria to be the new manager. This opportunity was too good to pass up.
Thats really my only concern with Cuddyer. If he could give us 135 games I think its a win. Good flexibility with him too position wise. I just like the aggressiveness of the signing. Shows me something. Now go get me a SS and we might have something here.
Id prefer Ramirez from the White Sox over anyone. Will come cheaper than Castro and Im not high on the idea of trading away any high pitching prospects. Niese and Montero should be more than enough.
Umm cause the Mets have Wilmer Flores and Tejada at SS and they need an upgrade? Considering his numbers last season he has a decent amount of value. Not Syndergaard value. But just below that.
He plays in a bandbox and his marginal power is the only positive attribute he has offensively, that goes out the window if he's on the Mets, he'll post a sub .300 OBP. He used to be good defensively but he's in his mid 30's and declining already, it's only going to get worse. I don't think he's an upgrade over Tejada at this point, just flip his OBP and SLG slashes from last year and that's what Ramirez's line will probably look like on the Mets.
An allstar SS isnt an upgrade over Tejada? Ramirez might not hit 15 homers playing for the Mets but its not unreasonable to think he could hit the .275 and steal 20 bases like he did last season. To me thats a huge upgrade.
Derek Jeter was an all star SS last year. Ramirez had a decent year last year but he was terrible the 2 years before that. Given his age and coming to the Mets I would expect his numbers to drop quite a bit.
