He'll be on the roster until his rookie contract expires. Barring injuries, I'm not so sure that he'll get another shot at being the starter

He could even start next year. A lot of things could change between now and next season ie. regime change. He could be the stopgap starter next season while they groom a rookie for example.

He's a young QB with a little experience. Plus his contract is inexpensive. He'll be back next year as a backup.

He only makes 900k. That's Woody's pocket money for the week.

I think most see it as if we draft a Mariota, Winston, Cook or someone else in Round 1...It makes little sense to keep Geno if there is another kid here. However, Geno could be someone else's pet project and can be traded

Geno has 20 something starts and has enough ability to be an NFL backup. If called on to start he could give us a start, too. So why waste what experience he does have by cutting him before his contract is up. I doubt he has much trade value at best a conditional pick. So I see him as our 2 next year unless he further regresses. Maybe Chip Kelly would sign him.

I think he's going to be here until his rookie deal expires. If he gets better weapons and pass protection in the future he might max out his potential -- which is probably no better than becoming mediocre but might result in him becoming a functional journeyman type and or tradeable for more than he is now.

i cringed when Rex said, he believes Geno has a great future in the league...Come on Rex.

Its the same bullshit like he says every postgame how "We had a great week of practice"

I know this is just an opinion, but I think Simms would be better off, for his career, if he was on a different team. One that would give him a real chance.

The thing is the Jets cut him and he passed through waivers which allowed us to sign him to the practice squad. Interesting to see what happens next year.

Every week he says we had a great week of practice. Either he doesn't know what that means, he's blowing smoke up everyone's asses or it doesn't matter.

Yeah, and I also think he'll get another shot to compete for the starting job.

This is of course assuming Rex/Idzik are back. If not, then yeah he's probably done here.

People still buy the things Rex Ryan says at a presser. Good lord.

He should be. Top notch or solid qbs don't grow on trees. Either develop it or take somebody else's goods.

geno won't get cut. he won't be relied upon in any way, but he'll be here, he's too cheap not to be here.

If he's NOT here than he was probably traded. (reminder Blaine fucking Gabbert got traded, it can happen)

I actually see a trade as best for all parties. If the Jets go high pick for a Qb, then Smith has no usefulness to this team, since that rookie needs to be matched with a solid vet, not Smith. I'd rather have Simms as the 3rd stringer than Smith. Get his sorry ass out of here.
