On field, nothing. Off field it sends the message that Woody is not satisfied with the results and wants to communicate that to the fan base so they know he is determined to produce a winner.
do we think Woody is satisfied w/ the results? I think it send an awful message, what GM would come here knowing they may get les than 2 years to do their job?
Anyone that can objectively examine Idzik's tenure and then look in the mirror and say. "I'm not a complete Retard"
Idzik has put us in a great position for the future w/ regards to cap and picks. it's asinine to make a final judgement on his drafts this early. Yes he has made some mistakes but not as many as people think and I have my doubts about him too but it's just not fair to anyone to give them a year and a half. Makes no sense.
This would work out well for the Pats. They could hire him as a special assistant for the rest of the year like they did with Daboll and McDaniel after they got fired.
Ambitious, confident people don't shrink from challenges, they rise to them. The GM worth having is the GM who believes he will succeed where others have failed.
every GM candidate thinks they can get the job done, every HC thinks they can get the job done. They all have confidence but if there are multiple offers seeing what we have done to Idzik could easily sway a good candidate elsewhere.
Would be absolutely stupid to fire a GM in-season. I would hope Wilkerson gets his deal reworked sometime soon, because god forbid he gets himself hurt and the new GM(If there is one) doesn't view Mo Wilk as high because of it. I disagree with firing a HC inseason too, especially on this team because then who takes over? MM? He is having enough on his plate with the offense, now you want him to do in game coaching? Something that was never his strong suit.
so is idzic the g.m. worth having because he was confident and ambitious enough to take a job with an incumbent h.c. or was he just the guy who we settled on because he would take a job with an incumbent h.c.?
Obviously the latter. The problem with the former is that if he really was confident in himself, he would want to have picked his own HC, rather than deferring to an owner who knows less about football than your average fan.
That is a non-sensical question that has nothing to do with what I said. My position in no way equates to the confidence of a candidate meaning they will be successful. But what I am stating is why would you want a GM who is insecure about his decisions and ability and thus is afraid to take a job because he may actually be evaluated on that performance. That's not the type of trait successful, driven people have. They believe they will succeed and aren't afraid of being evaluated at any stage. Idzik being hired because he was the only candidate that wanted the job is irrelevant because it is supposition that the other candidates were afraid to take the job or simply weren't interested in it because they had other options. That's not the dynamic Junc addressed, which was why would a GM take the job if he may get evaluated on his decisions. You don't want a GM that is afraid of his decisions because the GM worth having should believe he is going to make the right decisions and will be evaluated positively even in the short term.
There is a proper time and place to make your moves. This is not about sending a message to the fans. This is about replacing key personnel with football savvy leadership, and they just don't grow on trees and available on a moment notice. I don't think any CAPABLE OWNER in his right mind would fire a GM in mid season, knowing the criticality of the tasks in front of them, not the least of which is in depth preparation for the draft, coaches replacement, new personnel director selection, on and on WITHOUT HAVING A REPLACEMENT IN MIND and already committed to take the job. It will be horrific timing, pissing away another year of support for the new guy, in essence allowing the Jet train to keep on rolling down the tracks without any sense of purpose, and after it has past all the critical stations you hire a conductor to get it back on track. Then again we are the Jets, and this could be the year where we inherit Bradway as the interim GM, MM as the interim head coach and the inmates will run the asylum. If that is the case the next banner flying over the stadium should read. " If you don't want this stadium to be empty in 2015 please Woody sell this team NOW"
it was more a rhetorical question to show that anyone we get can and wi be cast as either up to the challenge or the last resort based on one's opinion of the franchise and the hire. A point bb was kind enough to validate rather quickly
