The red zone defense has been what's really surprised me. Can't even remember holding anyone to 3 inside the 10.

you're absolutely right, as I made this point several times in this forum...a tired D wears out eventually - no matter how talented......but these posters can't see the forest from the trees.

Maybe that's because this is a load of nonsense that keeps getting repeated by people who won't look at the facts. The Jets are averaging 30:30 time of possession this year. Nothing great, nothing disastrous. The D allowed the Chiefs to drive the field on them right out of the gate on Sunday. They have seen the offense hold the ball for more than 40 minutes and still found a way to lose.

The time of possession argument for our defensive ineptitude is bull.

By the quarters, the Jets have 55.57% ToP in the first quarter (6th in the league), and 50.38% in the second (16th). The defense has allowed 7.3 points in the first quarter on average. Second quarter - 9.4.

The Jets have scored an average of 4 and 6.3 points in the first two quarters, so that's (on average) a 16.7-10.3 deficit at halftime, with a healthy ToP.

In the second half of games the defense is stepping up, allowing 5.3 points in the third quarter and 4.4 in the 4th. The Jets defense has allowed double-digit quarters EIGHT times in the first half of games this year (only the Raiders failed to achieve this against the Jets). They have allowed only two double-digit quarters in the second half.

This defense is not tiring at the end of games, it is getting beaten early and then stiffening.

Yeah and you have to have a backfield to play defense too but lets not confuse the issue with facts.

The D is still pretty good against the Run. But every team knows our weakness is in our Secondary. So they just attack that. And we all know our secondary is weak. The in ability of our offence to sustain drives as well is allowing team to to have way more time of possesion than us and attack our weakness. Its painful to watch. But it has to be on Idzik. He has given us the inability to run at competent Defence or offence. We are Terrible in the Red Zone on both sides of the ball.

I like Rex. I dont want him to go. Getting 1st round talent does not make certain you have a competitive defence. So I dont hold the previous drafts against him. But the GM had to make sure our offence was more balanced. Even if he had kept the O Line at a better level we would be able to run it a lot lot more.

I started a thread stating that Geno was a scapegoat and showing evidence of it. Instead of the thread being a dialog about other problems with the team that may be just as bad or about the evidence I provided, the thread was overrun by a bunch of people who didn't comprehend the original post and thought they retorted me by showing me how badly Geno sucks (even though I stated in the initial post that he sucks). So I didn't bother to post again in my own thread.

The defense has been atrocious. Some of this is on the offense because of the turnovers. But the defense doesn't take the ball back at all.

And McDougle would miss the year... And Patterson would go AWOL.

Not saying this would be the top group of CBs in the league, but this would be a different team if not for these injuries

BB hasn't had a good D in a long time, he has been rescued his entire career by Brady. Rex hasn't had that luxury.

Rex just isnt a great head coach...his scheme is dependent on having great talent everywhere- which he had in 09/10 and also during his days in Baltimore.

The team just looks woefully disorganized week in and week out. Mishandling timeouts, wasted challenges, too many men on the field penalties. We've lost our best assistants...probably not a coincidence we look more disorganized with guys like Westhoff, Callahan and Pettine moving on.

If Rex is doing such a bang up job why has the team missed the playoffs four years in a row? I'm assuming it's the fans fault.

You know the patriots won a superbowl with Troy Brown at cb and a db coach that we would later fire.

So you don't think the defense would be better with bether players at CB?

And that's more of an exception than anything else. The league is also significanty more pass-happy now than it was then. Also, CBs are critical for how Rex runs his defense

he wasn't starting on D and they had Tom Brady to mask any flaws they had.

2008 1st round pick Vernon Gholston, 1st round pick Dustin Keller, no second round pick, no 3rd round pick
2009 1st round pick Mark Sanchez, no second round pick, 3rd round pick Shonn Greene
2010 1st round pick Kyle Wilson, 2nd round pick Vlad Ducasse, no 3rd round pick
2011 1st round pick Muhammad Wilkerson, no second round pick, 3rd round pick Kenrick Ellis
2012 1st round pick Quinton Coples, 2nd round pick Stephen Hill, 3rd round pick Demario Davis
2013 1st round pick Dee Milliner (on IR), 1st round pick Sheldon Richardson, 2nd round pick Geno Smith, 3rd round pick Brian Winters

A sequence like that will get any coach fired. It's kind of a miracle Rex has lasted this long. Woody Johnson spent heavily on free agents in 2008 and 2009 and that's why Rex is still around.

Just look at the list above and ask yourself how many players have made you grit your teeth over the years.
