The New York Jets with 252 have given up more points than any team in the NFL. Granted not all teams have played 9 games, but the only team with eight that for sure would have more in one more game is Tampa at 245. Remember how Rex was claiming this was one of his best Defenses ever. You can blame Idzik all you want, but the reality is Rex's defense is atrocious. In years past when Belichick had DB problems, he could throw a WR there and put up a more competent D than our Defensive Genius.
Absolutely. It's a combination of bad defense and average offense. Rex has no leverage as HC anymore since he always prides himself on Defense...yet it's the worst side of the ball for this team. Nothing is going to keep Rex here. For a defensive genius...you'd figure he'd at least put together an average defense...corners or no corners.
The plan was to play a lot of Cover 2 this year and then the good young Cover 2 CB got IR'd. I'm pretty sure the off-season would have gone a different direction if the Jets knew Milliner would play in parts of 3 games and be done for the year.
I was thinking that myself. Belichick played Troy Brown and Edelman on defense and the defense was at least serviceable. Rex someone gets a pass because of injuries and player personnel moves by Idzik.
people need to understand that rex and his system stink. without the best players, his scheme is terrible. and we're seeing it with the absence of turnovers...
Rex's defenses have been bend, but don't break, defenses for a few years. Except Rex had the secondary to not break for a few years. He literally has no talent in the secondary this year.
Not sure how you can blame the defense when they spend so much time on the field because the offense turns the ball over, not only giving your opponent more possessions but also a shorter field. Like Nietzsche says "The strongest have their moments of fatigue". It is hard to fight the good fight when your offense is hurting you so much.
simple answer rex needs to go not just for teh defense but the lack of smarts on the team second idzik must go for the lack of talent
Those defenses weren't serviceable. Unless by serviceable you mean being carried by Brady & Co putting up 35+ a game. Facts are facts, the CBs Rex is working with are absolute bums, and the second stringers on the other side of the ball are worse.
A defensive "Genius" is suppose to at least make an average defense with such a stellar DL front and decent LB corp. The fact this "genius" constantly backs up Kyle Wilson, Antonio Allen, and Dee Milliner makes me question how great of a defensive mind he actually is.
Really? This is the same thing we heard for two years about him putting Sanchez out there. The only other options were even worse. Same thing here...If my options are to trot out Kyle Wilson who is at least an NFL quality athlete and knows the play calls(though he lacks anything resembling skill) or to put out a guy like Marcus Williams where you really don't think he has the ability, skills, or knowledge of the system, I'll send out Wilson till he can't go out anymore. It's not like he's benching 1992 Darrell Green and Deion Sanders and forcing Kyle Wilson down our throats. He's playing the extremely shitty hand he's been dealt. That said-- I'm all for firing everyone from the owner down to the ball boys after this season.
Tom Bradys great play has masked the Patriots problems at times we don't have that option.Look at who are starting corners are this week Josh Thomas and some other guy named Marcus.I swear some of you people give a whole new meaning to the word "idiot"
What is he suppose to do?come out and publicy slam the only options he has to work with? What would that accomplish exactly?what coach publicly slams his players? He does it behind the scenes to there faces like a real coach would.Even Harvin said yesterday Rex holds guys personally accountable behind the scenes.Don't belive everything you hear in a press confrence or an interview, you must have been so sad when you realized the tooth fairy was really your drunk uncle
I agree that was the plan, but do you really think Milliner being out is the reason for this total melt down on defense? Really? We got by without Revis, we got by with a hobbled Cro. Milliner set us back that far? That's a lot of eggs in one basket.
Flashbacks 1995, couldn't we jus ask Lowery to smack the ball boys? http://www.nytimes.com/1995/12/11/sports/pro-football-lowery-strikes-ball-boy.html
We didn't get by with a hobbled Cro last year. We'd allowed 221 points through 9 games and we hadn't faced Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Stafford, Jay Cutler and Philip Rivers at that point. This year is basically the same as last year with an adjustment for the competition. We had the same yardage allowed last year as this. Once Milliner went down for the year the Jets plan of having him on one side and a competition on the other evaporated. McDougle wasn't going to do much this year and was probably going to wind up in the slot for the Jets at some point but Walls and company were the competition on the other side and instead they've been the CB tandem all year. You can't sign a big free agent because your #1 pick from the previous season might get hurt. Nobody does that. If you think the guy you picked can play you go draft another CB and you let your depth work itself out. The 2012 performance is really hard to figure out because the Jets were bad against the run that year. Nobody passes on Rex Ryan when they can just run the ball up the middle against him for a nice profit.
