Rex was not at his funniest at this particular moment. I do think he's generally pretty amusing though.
Lol..... They lose this game I hope he's summarily fired. I'm sick of his act. I like him. I want him to succeed. But this whole thing is starting to stink. I'm not blaming him either. Woodster shoulda let Idzik move on. This is a waste of a year.
He didn't really throw Pryor under the bus. He did say the D schemes didn't allow Pryor to play his game. But he has mentioned dropping sure picks and he's sensitive to the Jets D being at the bottom of the league in interceptions. But Rex and Thurmond did a good job coaching up Milliner last year and practicing tough love. Maybe that's what this is, too.
So not only is Rex using Coples incorrectly but now he is also using Pryor incorrectly and voicing his displeasure with him?
I'm not a Rex fan but what he did say was because of injuries etc in the defensive backfield they couldn't put the packages in they wanted to which would accentuate Pryor's skills as a hard hitting safety. I don't know if I believe it. This is an injury league and a coach has to deal with it not make excuses because his teams D stats are down. But it's good that they call a player out and try to push him like they did with Milliner last season. And it worked with him he got a lot better.
I think he said it as a motivational tactic to pump Pryor up to better than he is. Nothing wrong with that IMO. Some players gravitate to that type of stuff, and others shy away from it. Rex knows how to get the best out of his players generally.
Pryor hasn't impressed me at all, I was expecting a mix of Ronnie Lott an Steve Atwater after reading the expert reviews on this board
Being this weak at CB has had a ripple effect no doubt. The more we try to mask that weakness, the more we take away from other areas of the defense. The run support is handicapped, our ability to be aggressive declines, the pass rush less effective, and of course, certain players aren't put in the best spots to succeed. All that said, the situation may not be ideal, but Pryor needs to step it up.
Right now he's playing like both Landry brothers, who are hit or miss and are horrible, but he will get better just a rookie
It's really too early to make a decision on Pryor. I have not been unimpressed with him even though he's been blamed for some blown coverages. And dropped potential picks. The blown coverages is what bugs me. It just happens way too much with this team. I blame it as much on the coaches as I do the players. I think Pryor will be alright and probably be a good ten year player in the NFL.
i was really dissapointed in pryor when he went 1 v 1 against the 3rd string rb from the chargers (i dont remember his name, oliver or something like that)? and basiclly got bounced. This guy was supposed to thump him and stop him from the end zone, possibly causing a fumble. Not even close. He dropped an easy pick 6 and never really was close to creating a TO. I havent given up on him yet because he's a rookie, but I dont even see the "flashes" yet, he made some plays but these are are plays double A could've made
Rex goes through the media for certain players, it is unusual when he does so because most of the time he protects his players through the media. He said similar things about Hill, Kerley, and I think Coples?
Pryor is not an NFL player. don't think its too early to say that but I haven't seen one positive from his play
After watching the FSU vs. Louisville game tonight it looks like we drafted the wrong Cardinal safety and a year too early. Gerod Holliman Wow. 10 INTs in 9 games. Got 2 in the game and could have easily had 4. That's the kind of safety this defense needs.
