Rex won't do that. He's not thinking about Mariota or Winston or Cook or anyone. He's thinking about keeping his job even if he has basically no chance at keeping it.
This is just another blunder by the organization . Why would you start a QB that's not going to be on the roster next season when you could continue to evaluate 2 players, Simms and Geno, who have a better chance of sticking. Say what you want about Geno but keeping him around as a back up wouldn't be a bad idea. his salary is cap friendly and he has almost 2 season's under his belt as a starter. If Simms shows he has some skills you can cut Geno lose in a draft day trade or whatever. I understand Rex is trying to save face by starting Vick who showed he can move the ball down the field but this just sets the franchise back even further imo.
It's not just saving face. How can Rex motivate his defense when he willingly keeps a qb in throwing 3 picks a quarter? I would hate to be Wilkerson.
A lose-lose for Rex. If Vick does well, he'll be crucified for not making this move earlier. If Vick doesn't do well, then it'll show he has no idea how to handle the QB position..,.
No tanking. You play to win. No need to feel good about losing, or even think about rooting for it, until we are mathematically out of it. 9-7 could sneak us in. 8-0 isn't likely, but it's possible.
Was Idzik actually forcing Rex to start Geno so he could evaluate him rather than try to win games. It's a strong accusation that's been made by a lot of people. But is it true. Idzik only said that it's a joint decision on whom to start at Qb. Even though the HC is the one who theoretically chooses the starters in a game.. But the lines of power in the NFL differ from team to team and don't follow a script. But if it is true it stinks. Esp. when they're charging the fans big bucks to see a good product not a developmental league team. For that I can go see Tajh Boyd play in the FXFL. Will Geno be there in the near future, too?
I should have corrected that, you're right. Rex is trying to win, which I totally get, but Idzik & Woody should tell him the rest of the season is about evaluating the roster since any hope of a playoff birth is out of the question.
If they start Vick and he falls then they just look like idiots. Simms fails and they never work again.
Vick looked horrible during the game and didn't even know which way to hand the ball off. Vick will get hurt within the next two weeks and they will be back with Smith. We will still be 1-9 at the bye-week.
Jets will lose the game still. Vick is no longer Vick...besides he'll be injured again by his second start
So true. I already knew Geno wasn't ready from last season. Vick should have started the season. More mismanagement.
Rob, even if the Jets play to win, they'll still find a way to lose. It won't look like tanking, it won't smell like tanking, but if the Jets are smart about it they'll lose close every week just like the Colts did and snag a really high DP. Now if that idiot GM of ours fcks up the picks then we're SOL.
