Strong arm, okay accuracy, he's a great athlete but he relies on his legs too much for me.

That's probably the closest comparison. What Kaepernick had in arm strength as a prospect, Mariota has in passing ability (i.e., accuracy, touch and anticipation). While Kaep is not Luck, if he were in next year's draft he would be the #1 overall pick based on what we know now.

Either way whoever we select they should sit for a year or two.

Just as he did on those two years he farted away all the potential he had, we had a stacked team and he NEVER EVER progressed in his individual performance. Who cares if we had another OC? Be a leader and own that job. They gave him more then enough opportunities...It's not about how you start but how you change the game and evolve as a player.

Lol, thanks on the pokemon compliments. Now don't you go cry to sleep, because remember Santa Claus isn't real...That's coming from one big child to a really dumb child

Kaep was a project and IMO he was fortunate to have been drafted where he was. He got to sit for a year while learning from a great coach that knew how to develop and groom a QB. Mariota is a great athlete with a strong arm but hes an average pocket passer.

i said it here and I will say it again mark is better then geno no hind-site needed the record shows it. Is Sanchez an all pro nope he is average which is still light yrs away from Genot.
The culprit here is the Gm who made several bad choices, not signing Cro back but signing Patterson?
drafting geno was not a huge mistake but I would have taken an olineman or a receiver to help sanchez or the vet qb I would have sign to take the job away from him.
pretty simple formula, instead the proceed to make bad choices this yr by leaving gapping wholes to save money for next yr. Now instead of signing another receiver at the start of the yr, they left a young qb to struggle and he has...surprise.
What should not surprise you is Sanchez has not had this talent around him in 3 yrs and sanchez plays to the level of the talent around him.
But Geno has the unique ability to bring everyone to his level of suckyness
And Poe as a latin american i find your comment racist and little better then the bills fan calling jet fans guido

It can be argued that we have the worst QB situation in the league followed immediately by the Bucs and Bills. IMO Glennon is under-appreciated; Bills, at least, are winning games. The other potential QB needy teams like STL, TEN, OAK, MIN and JAX at least have young QBs they still feel have potential (i.e., Hill, Mett, Carr, Bridge and Bortles respectively).

I was saying that Kaep with the benefit of hindsight would probably be a #1 overall type pick depending on the draft. IMO the coaching is more important than the sitting.

Mariota carries Oregon?? That team has been a top 5 team for like 10 years now, running the same system that whole time; plenty of other QBs have had similar success there and done exactly nothing in the pros. And the next QB they have will put up similar numbers.

He's another project at this level, but lacks the arm and speed of Kaep or Wilson or Cam. No thanks.

Harbaugh knows how to groom and develop QB's. If he were a Jet he'd been ran out of town by now.

This has certainly been true in the past but this year's version of the Oregon Ducks is not like the prior teams. This is why I was late to jump on the Mariota band wagon but leading it now.

That's a Jets fans issue not a player issue which deserves it's own separate discussion.

We haven't developed a QB since Chad. Since Rex has been here he and his regime hasn't shown they are capable of developing a QB. If/when Kaep struggles the fans and media would throw a fit.

Our fan base and the NY media is no reason to pass on a potential franchise QB.

I regret us thinking we could find a starting NFL QB in the draft. You only do that if you're rebuilding from scratch. None of what has happened is surprising. They handed over the team to some kid straight out of college ball and he sucked. Big surprise. How unexpected.

The problem was not drafting Geno. I wouldn't have drafted him (for a variety of reasons that are best left for another thread), but there is no arguing that he was at the very least a reasonable value pick at a position of need. The problem is that either the front office or coaching staff (or both) was seemingly unable to recognize the blatantly obvious after one season (and two offseasons and pre-seasons) ... which is that Geno is not a starting caliber NFL quarterback. You cannot win in this league with a bottom 5 starting quarterback; we are now on Year 6 of trying to accomplish this feat - it's not going to happen. Any front office personnel or member of the coaching staff (or owner, for that matter) who thinks you can win a championship with a bottom 5 starting quarterback ... or who thinks Geno is not a bottom 5 starting quarterback ... is simply too stupid to have his job. It's that simple. Rex? Idzik? Both? Whoever is responsible for Geno starting needs to go. End of story.
