I think the idea is to steal Hardy away for a cheaper deal because of his pending legal troubles. Then you keep Richardson and Wilkerson and let the rest walk. Look at what the Lions have with their two elite defensive tackles and how good their defense is despite a pretty piss poor back end. Two guys that can consistently get pressure up the middle allows you to plug & play a lot of other pieces while the run defense is unchanged and the pass rush yields you one on one's in the outside. Easier said than done but it allows to focus on getting guys that are simply good at getting to the edge with speed and don't have to play the run or respect the draws because they have a couple hogs clogging everything up.
I doubt it if Rex isn't coach he isn't gonna want to come back here,I could see him going where ever Rex goes though
My point exactly. Though I would do everything possible to keep Richardson. He's the most versatile and he's already shown to be a leader on this team in just a year and half playing. I've never seen a DT make as many tackles down the field the way Richardson does. It speaks to his motor and how much he hustles, definitely a cornerstone type player.
I say let all the free agents walk except Harris and Snacks and spend the money elsewhere,we are 1-6 we don't need to resign a bunch of non impact scrubs to come back for next year
Most likely a guy like Hardy will play on a one-year prove it deal next year to reestablish his value, it wouldn't make sense to sign a long term contract when his value doesn't match his talent. While its enticing I don't think the Jets should invest in an expensive one year deal considering the state of the franchise, we are in rebuild mode and I think Hardy will get a deal from a contender trying to get over the top.
Yeah and look what the Lions are going to have to do this off season, let Suh and Fairly both walk most likely. Dumping tons of money into one group on the field may sound very enticing because who doesn't want an elite group of players at a certain area, but it is not a recipe for long term success. Especially on defense, if there is one weak link other teams will constantly pick on that weak link until you prove you can stop it.
