Rex should get a contract extension right now...

I like Rex, but I'm not going to cry myself to sleep when they fire him this off-season. I think he'll do a lot better in his next HC stint like many other coaches have in the past, and having someone philosophically different from Rex on the sidelines next year will do the Jets some good.
Just remembering the good times in a relationship to get over recent prolonged tribulations is not the way to go. The memories of those playoff runs are just sunk costs.

The funny thing is Rex already has a multi year contract through 2016.

This is why we should keep Rex and spend all our cap money next year, our new coach will get a pass for his first losing season and he will want to find his own players and his own defense, another 3 year rebuild then we will see said new coach and Idzik fired and keep the cycle going

I will truly miss Rex. Sucks the talent is so bad but no way do the Jets fire Idzik and let Rex continue to coach. I don't see a scenario where they keep both.

Rather than losing their 6th straight game to fall to 1-6 the Jets could have easily won this game if they just had another timeout or two on the last drive. The inability to preserve timeouts have been a constant issue throughout Rex's tenure.

Somehow we have people who feel this performance which resulted in a loss that can be directly attributed to poor coaching should result in a Rex being extended.

Usually I can get over the stupidity of a stupid thread if I ignore it long enough but this one really takes the cake. I mean really.

The contract is a little funny in that it is only guaranteed through 2015 and the Jets supposedly have an out clause where they are not on the hook for big money if they let him go; however, having said that, I am not sure sure he's gone. At the end of the year, I think Woody will see how they finish, lick his finger, stick it in the air and see which way the wind is blowing.

I guess the San Diego debacle was an off day for Rex.....

Let's give an extension to a guy who's 42-43 in 5 1/4 years of coaching....

Oh I'm not saying he will or will not be here next year, I'm more referring to the fact that the thread is calling for an extension to a contract that already has multiple years remaining.

I think Lovie Smith is in the same boat. Without Tedford his team's been under performing, but he's still a good coach.

Agreed, that Idzik did the team a disservice by not being more active in the offseason. Adding Emmanuel Sanders would have done wonders for the offense. I'm hoping Idzik's plan is three years and not two years.

Rex' s record without Schotty is pretty poor.

Here's a ground breaking thought. What if we get a new coach and he wins with the same talent?

Agreed. The CS lost that game. Period. Wasting time outs. Horrible red zone play calling. Taking five minutes to score at the end of the game. Awful two point conversion play call. Then the idiotic onsides kick. It was truly awful. Throw in another end of half score against the vaunted defense, no turnovers by the D,and some more third down TDs, including one on third and 18. All this wasted a good performance by the QB and the offense.

Give me a break. Stop falling in love with coaches. They come and go.

I realize that, I just wanted to point out the logical fallacy. Anybody that wants to keep Rex because the Jets have lacked talent and also wants to get rid of Geno Smith needs to re-examine their position.

Woody should never have hired a GM without letting him bring in his own staff and HC. I'm no CEO but that didn't make much sense to me. If he fires Idzik but keeps RR, he'll need to make RR GM.

This team has Jacksonville talent. Don't let the record fool you though. Everybody knew these first 7 games were gonna be tough, to the point where coming out 3-4 would have been awesome. This team, in my opinion, will be 7-9 or 8-8. This team SHOULD be 2-14. Rex makes this horrific roster look a lot better then it is. That's what I mean by afloat. Contrary to what most Jets fans wanna believe, this team should have never made it 1, let alone 2 AFC title games. By far one of the worse rosters in football since Rex has taken over.

................... and what if he doesn't, go get another HC?

I'm good with keeping Rex this season and next. I'm more concerned with what Idzek isn't doing

For all the Idzik haters, fine if you want to blame him for the past 2 years, where does the blame fall for the previous two years that the jets did not make the playoffs whe idzik was not here?

Because it will be 4 straight years without playoffs, so who gets the blame?

What's it sparano, Tannenbaum, mike Pettine, sanchez, Santonio Holmes?

    It seems there are basically 3 camps here,;
    Idzek and Rex haters.
    Idzek haters.
    Rex haters.

All the fan-bases that haven't made the play-offs are also all bitching about it, someone has to come first, someone has to come last and then there's everyone in between.
We all knew that when Idzek came in it was unlikely we would see great changes, (for the good) straight away. I think what has surprised most people is what seems like a total U-turn on where and what we thought was going to be the direction we were going to be going.
No one here really knows why we were so quiet in free agency and all we can do is speculate, clean slate for the possible next HC if Rex fails? Certainly what has transpired since April has all the building blocks in place for Rex to fail. That is why I want to see Both Idzek and Rex here next year. If Woody can block out all the boo-boys and NY Media whipping up a 'fire Rex' storm then I'm hopeful this will be the case, then finally we will have some idea of what this so called re-build plan is.

Its also very unfortunate that we have one of the toughest schedules in years that is also underlining how far we've slipped and how far we have to go which is where I put blame on why this fan-base is now rightly its losing patience .
