The O had chances absolutely but a big time D gets a stop and gives their O a chance late in that game. the D set the tone w/ that long TD drive to open the game and allowed Pitt to manhandle them most of the game. It was a team loss, all phases could have done better but when you are supposed to have an elite D and they don't play like it then that hurts more and the failure to not get the ball back late was the crusher.
It shouldn't have gotten to that point in the first place. The Jets put themselves in that spot and they lost. I dont feel like having this discussion again somets agree to disagree.
but they did get in that spot thanks to the O, D and STs. Had a chance to dig out and win, D didn't give O a chance.
I continue to profess that Geno does a very good job of making the appropriate reads for a young QB. The issues in no particular order are: footwork, anticipation, mechanics and situational awareness. There's also a this lack of urgency, for lack of a better term, in game that I can't really explain; it kinds of mirrors his personality.
The defense: gave up 276 yards, got two INTs and a safety, and gave up 17 points on the road. Thats not giving them a chance? A Sanchez fumble returned for a TD was the difference in the game (and his horrible play on first and goal).
the fumble for a TD was an incomplete pass, was a bad call but even if they made the right call we are punting and Pitt gets ball near midfield where they would have at least kicked a FG and been up 20 instead of 21. one of the INTs was a 4th down stop where Ben just threw it b/c he couldn't get the 1st down running, Thomas was tackled at LOS. the other was a heave downfield where we got ball inside our 15. the O scored a TD to pull w/ion 5 w/ plenty of time to play. I was in that Stadium, the fans were in panic mode. Our D could have allowed a 1st down and still had time to stop them and give O a chance but the D wasn't content w/ allowing one 1st down, they allowed 2 to end the game. a big time D gets a stop in that spot. Unfortunately we never had a big time D.
Unless the question is Who should we bench for Vick? Who isn't a franchise qb? Who goes to the movies instead of a team meeting? Who has no leadership and is a complete bum?
I don't care what the stats say. Sanchez was a lot better than Geno. I remember plenty of Sanchez comebacks. And Sanchez won playoff games as a rookie. If we wanted a change we should have gotten a veteran journeyman. There are plenty of decent backup QB's out there. Rookies should almost never start unless you're rebuilding from scratch. It was insane to think the Geno would be successful. He wasn't Payton Manning or Andrew Luck coming out of college. I feel like this team is run by people who don't watch football. This season and last season are pretty predictable. Start a rookie QB who is not a clear college super star and you will lose a bunch of games before you even know whether the kid has any potential.
p Was he the person that through a horrible pass that led to a pick six? YES! Is Smith leading the league in turn-overs? YES! Should he have been sacked for a safety! YES, he was sacked for a safety, but was given a second chance that he turned into a pick six. Did Smith only complete 53% of his passes? YES! Did we have a hard time running the ball, because the other team is not afraid of our passing game? YES! Do we have the worst red zone scoring rate in the NFL? YES! When I reach the point where he played pretty well, please stop me! I said he sucked way before we drafted him and have stuck by my statement!
Was that pick six in garbage time when there realistically was no hope? YES! Is Smith's turnovers all his fault and have nothing to do with receivers not fighting for passes or getting hit immediately after the ball being snapped? NO! Did Smith's receivers get open during the game? NO! Did we have a hard time running the ball because we don't have one single good player on the o-line? YES! Stupidity at its best.
Wow, was there time on the clock with the Jets down by only one score? YES. I have seen quite a few scores over the years with that much time on the clock. To call it garbage time is saying with Smith at QB is garbage. Anything could happen and with Geno at QB it was a safety, followed up by a pick six. I expect nothing more from Smith at QB.
We have more than one good player on the O-line, but with a shitty QB behind them and a shitty coach you can't do everything, especially since an o-lineman doesn't touch the ball or call the plays.
LOL - I would rather have Derek Carr, but to me it appears Idzik thought Geno Smith was a better passer.
