What is this don't blame Vick bullshit? The guy is a backup QB in the NFL getting paid $5 million to do a good job. He is supposed to be ready to come in and play at any minute. This is not the first time he has displayed this half-assed behavior either so it's not like it's all on the Jets. Difference now is he no longer posses the elite physical skills he once did.

No doubt the Jets organization poured gasoline on the fire but Vick is mostly responsible for not being prepared.

Yes, he could have but Sanchez would have accounted for thirteen million against the cap, and by cutting him we were able to save 8.3 million in cap space.

No General Manager is going to pay thirteen million for a QB, who played poorly in his last two seasons as a Jet and had his shoulder surgically repaired in the offseason, when a cheaper, arguably better QuarterBack is available. It was a financial decision, it really is as simple as that.

Retain, as in cut and resign. Just clarifying.

You've got too much time on your hand, byz...

    1. What is the job description of a backup QB?

Doesn't that include mopping up the game on call?

    2. Isn't he getting paid for his service?

Last time I checked, his salary was over 5 million dollars a year.

Hell, if I got paid a cool million, not even 5 as Vick is getting paid, I would do everything they ask me to do and then some.

So are you telling me that Vick doesn't blame? For not being prepared? How? So everybody else should be accountable for the job EXCEPT Vick? What the fuck are ya smoking, son?

It took me less than 30 seconds to find that.

So because he didn't get the starting job on a team that was trying to groom (poorly, but trying) its quarterback, he mentally checks out? If you defend that, then you're crazy. After four weeks, Geno Smith was on as hot a seat as there is in professional sports, PLUS he could get injured on any given play. It's the backup QB's job to be ready to go. There's no defending him at all, none.

I'm not an expert on the cap but does cap savings matter if you are not using it? Basically, if the Jets were to have kept Sanchez w/o restructuring and cut him next year would they end with the same amount of cap space in 2015 as they are scheduled to have now?

Every cent that was not spent in 2014, can be rolled over into 2015 so to your question no we would not have the same amount of cap space in 2015.

However, had we kept Sanchez and cut him in 2015, we then would have been able to roll over money not spent in that offseason to 2016.

that implies sanchez would have automatically resigned with the jets.
he was probably ready for a change too. the sanchez/jets relationship had run its course,it was best for both parties to move on.
