The NFL salary cap this year is $133 million dollars. The Jets have spent the least amount of money in the league by far at $110 million dollars. With the rollover rules that is going to allow the Jets to rollover $23 million dollars of cap space into next season. The Jets will also have about $30 million in free agents at the end of the year, which leaves them on the hook for about $80 million next year. The projected salary cap in 2015 is about 135 million dollars. When you add the total under the cap (55 million) as well as the 23 million of rollover money, we will have a total of 78 million dollars to spend this offseason.

    78 MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS......AND A TOP 3 - 10 PICK.

Idzik was brought in to fix our salary cap problems. He has done that, but what he has also done is create a situation that is going to do 2 things moving forward.

    1. He will be able to choose ANY coach he wants. The Jets are going to have all of that money to spend and are far from completely devoid of talent. It's much tougher to be a team whose cap situation is a disaster and the incoming coach knows that they are doomed before they even start.

    2. The Jets will be able to pull in any player they want that is on the open market. Some players will get resigned. The Cowboys and Eagles will most likely be able to keep Bryant and Maclin. Some players will be let go though. Crabtree, Royal, and Demarius Thomas might leave. The Jets will be able to offer more than anyone and with 78 million to spend, will be able to lure in no less than 4 of the top players. Getting Revis, Crabtree, Houston, and 2 veteran guards in the offseason is not that unrealistic at all.

Idzik tanked this season on purpose to try and build a legit Super Bowl contender for the future. Everyone knows in the NFL it's usually teams like the Cowboys, Bills, and Dolphins that never win a title because they are never bad enough to get a franchise changing draft pick, but never good enough to win it all. The Jets have been in that territory for 20+ years. Idzik is doing something radical to change that, and I am inclined to let him continue on with his plan.

They need to throw money at any blue chip WR that will listen to their offer.

no qb = no winning and i don't see a good one shaking loose next year. thats where washington, miami, buffalo, have gone wrong when they overspent the last few years. so even if idzic makes it rain next march most of those players will be past prime by the time the qb situation is sorted out(if it ever does)
i am not calling for his firing (too early) but i can't get excited about a spending spree when its really not going to matter without a triggerman

What makes you think Idzik is spending money? He had money this year and signed Dimitri Patterson. His whole schtick is build through the draft - too bad he doesn't have an eye for talent...

Idzik must be fired for any of that money to matter.

This is why I think the Jets are actually an attractive coaching job for whoever replaces Rex, assuming he does indeed walk the plank.

If Rex does get fired we are most likely going to have a great pick with tons of cap room to work with.

Meh. There are alot of really mediocre QB's disguising themselves around the league as GREAT QB's, even though the only reason they are any good is because of what is around them. Kaepernick, Stafford, Cutler, Foles, Dalton. Geno had jack shit around him for 2 years. For the little while he has actually gotten to play with Decker though he has been really good. 70% completion with him on the field. 24% with him off. Just look at Mike Vick on Sunday. He looked even worse then Geno. It's impossible to actually grade Geno until they give him some solid pass protection and WR's. I don't see the same shit with him that I saw with Sanchez. Most of the mistakes he makes is when he is under heavy pressure or when he is trying to fit the ball into a non-existent window because his WR's suck.

Amaro is a good example of why I think Geno still has a chance to be good. The guy creates space, and Geno finds him (and accurately), alot. 14 receptions on 17 targets. That's REALLY good. I want to see what Geno does with real receivers before I throw him in the trash. If he sucks still, then adios Geno.

Demaryius? Maybe he doesn't resign since peyton will be retiring soon.. idk wishful thinking though. We'll have a little extra cash to throw at him.. obviously in this league sometimes you gotta over pay.. nobody signing just because you have a "vision". Especially leaving a winning team.

Money talks. If we want him, he's ours again. If not then we go after another top free agent corner. Either way the Jets will be able to pay for a great replacement for Walls.

    Demarius, Bryant, Maclin, Crabtree.

Those are your 4 elite WR's that will be free agents this year. Most will get resigned but I would bet that atleast one gets away from their current team. The Jets will have the $$$ to pay whichever one it is.

I could def. see Crabtree hitting FA, he wants "top 5 money" and he's getting out played by stevie johnson.

Maclin... ehhh... maybe if there was no other choice.

Dez might get resigned but that might also hurt the cowboys cap situation, they have a few 100 million dollar players already on the roster under contract. Dez already told them no hometown discount and failed to meet their deadlines twice on a new contract.

Is his schtick really build through the draft though? Everyone build through the draft. That's not rocket science. Every team gets 7 draft picks every year and use them to add players and get better.

Remember the Jets HAVE TO spend atleast 89% of the salary cap next year. They only have 85 million dollars worth signed and with a projected cap of about 137 million, that means they will HAVE TO spend atleast 36 million dollars. Even if we resign Wilkerson for 10 million a year and use about 7 million on draft picks. Idzik will have to by league rules spend 19 million on somebody.

Dez is who I want most. Imagine a core with Dez, Decker, and Amari Cooper. All we would need to go is sign the best 2 guards out there and this offense could become insanely good really fast, even if Matt Simms was starting.

I love your thinking, but you know the Jets won't go out and sign Dez, and then use a high pick on Cooper, lol. We'll be lucky if they even do ONE of those things.

They should grab a few offensive linemen in FA.
