Maybe because Geno's biggest problems (untimely turnovers) happen to also he Vick's biggest problems and Rex and Idzik have decided that in the long run not benching Geno is better than benching him?
I didn't even see the first half but it looked like they had trouble moving the ball. He did a better job in the second half sans his usual dumbass interception. Im patient within reason so I'll see how things play out going forward.
And here come the responses I specifically pointed out in the OP. "It won't be much better with Vick in either" First of all, that is complete speculation. Vick has yet to take a regular season snap as the starter yet people are proclaiming him to be as bad or slightly better than Geno Smith. Second, what was the point in signing Vick if when he is in, things would be just as bad? Third, how many fuck ups does it take until Geno is benched? What are you all hoping for? That Geno has an epiphany and magically stops turning the ball over and we start winning games? You claim that it's better for his future than benching him, but what is? Losing game after game and turning the ball over and over again? That's better for his future? It's been 4 games this year and he has looked like dog shit: - 2nd worst QB rating in the league. - 39th ranked completion percentage. - Tied for 1st for most interceptions. - 20th in TDs. Yet, he still has time and could do better? Lol But Vick wouldn't be much better. My ass haha
First of all great work on this thread. I watched Ryan's post game presser, and I was dying to hear someone ask the obvious question, which is Just how bad is Vick in practice if you don't think he would be an improvement over the obviously poor and struggling Smith? The point is that either Vick has since winning the starting job in Philly last year over Nick Foles turned into a worthless Qb, or Ryan is not playing his best option to win at Qb. The thing I can't figure out though is if continuing to play Smith is Idzik's call or Ryan's. Because if it is Ryan's call, I am officially off the fence and say he should be fired. But I don't know that. It would be part of a disturbing pattern if true, though, as we saw pretty much the same thing with Sanchez.
The question I present to you is IF Vick falters because of the supporting cast, what do you do then? Still use Vick even though they aren't winning games but he isn't worse than Geno statistically? Because while its speculation(Everything in regards to Vick is), I don't think Vick will be able to salvage this mess. I want Vick in to get a no doubt analysis on other positions on offense, so there's nobody to take the full frontal blame or cast a shadow on them like Geno. If Vick can make this work, god bless him again. But I don't think Vick can help our OLine pass protect when Vick is chased out of the pocket 2 seconds after the snap, great mobility or not. If Vick makes turnovers by poor reads or trying to do much, does he take the blame and we can say we have nobody at QB? Or does the finger get pointed to the supporting cast then?
I said I'd give Geno the Lions game and re-assess then. Well, he sucked. If the coaching staff wants to put Vick in, thats cool with me. I'm not a fan of Vick and dont think he is that much of an improvement, but Geno isnt getting the job done.
Vick brings a few things that are huge for this team. The first is total understanding of this offense no dumbing down the playbook we have the full repertoire. Secondly, adjusting overages and formations being a vet Vick should not have to much trouble with this. Thirldy, in preseason Vick got the Jets in the endzone Geno has not shown he can do this. Finally, Vick is a proven winner in the league. He i snot my favorite QB but vick has won a lot of games. Vick even at 34 requires defenses to account for him. Vick with our RBs will scare a lot of defenses. If we are playing for next year keep in Geno and will go 1-6.
Mark Sanchez --- Rex Ryan Coach -- Ruined him Geno Smith --- Rex Ryan Coach --- Ruined Him 2015 1st rd Pick --- Rex Ryan --- Well you see the pattern
I am/was a big Rex fan but you have a good point another good reason to go with a Vet QB. Rex and others seem to think you can win in the NFL by not making mistakes. You can't your offense has to make plays.
Wait - are you saying he flashed an ability to play good football at some point in his 20 starts? EXTEND HIS CONTRACT!
So let's sign a guy like Vick for a million dollars to help push Geno and to be there if we need him, but when we need him, let's ignore him and not waste our time. I don't think you quite understand how bad Geno Smith really is lol Vick just standing back there would be an immediate upgrade.
Vick isn't the same Vick anymore. He may be an upgrade, but it's definitely no sure thing. Vick has been turnover prone his entire career, and struggles in the RZ. Those are the two same struggles we (rightfully) crucify Geno for. What's the point in benching a young QB who has shown us a good amount of potential that at this point is a turnover prone 20 to 20 QB and replace him with an old, definitely not part of our future turnover prone 20 to 20 QB? Our problem hasn't been driving the ball downfield (with the exception of our 5 straight 3 and outs yesterday, but I think even the biggest Geno haters would chalk those drives up to play calling). We've been quite good at that. It's been TOs and the RZ. And I don't see how Vick helps that.
The logic behind it is to give him a chance to play himself out of his funk. He's been up and down and not nearly as bad as you're making him out to be. I can understand turning to Vick but before you do it you give Geno a chance to get out of his slump. You bench a guy that quickly if he's a stopgap. If you think he can be your franchise guy you give him chances. You may not agree with it but it makes sense. If Geno continues to be up and down then you sit him for a half and let him watch and realize that continual boneheaded mistakes won't be tolerated.
And you know this how? Last I checked, he had won a starting job in Philly before he was injured and set him back however long.
Not nearly as bad as I'm making him out to be? He has the second to worst quarterback rating this season. He is tied for most interceptions. He leads the league with most turnovers. He is in the bottom 5 in TDs. His completion percentage is bottom 5. Not as bad? Really?
Because he lost to Geno ****ing Smith in a QB competition. Even if it was never going to be a real competition, he still performed worse than Geno did by all reputable accounts.
Vick isnt starting because there is no reason for him to start. we arent a win now team, we are a rebuilding team. evaluting smith is more important then a couple extra meaningless wins. in fact, a better draft pick is probably a good thing, if in fact we need to take a QB in the first round. Starting vick means what? we go 8-8, max 9-7, miss the playoffs, get a pick in the late teens, have the issue of having to evaluate geno AGAIN next year? i just dont see the upside to starting vick, unless you like lower draft picks or what a 35 year old running this team for the next 3-4 years
And this is not true at all. This was made apparent by Vick and many people involved. This was not a quarterback competition. This was bringing in Vick to mentor Geno and push him as a backup. Geno was always going to be the starter. If you think otherwise, you are very wrong.
