Did anybody notice how easily we move the ball down field with Geno. Our only concern is red zone. Red zone problems normally stem from having WRs who can't get open quick enough. Give Geno a chance for christ's sake. Andrew Luck screw up every weekend and he's on the longest leash in the league.
and that is the point. The teams w/ truly elite QBs didn't draft a QB every year or 2 until they got it right.
You may be right, but I simply cannot remember being concerned about in game adjustments in 09 so much. That's probably a function of my lack memory.
So you blame Kerley for that fourth down pass out of the end zone? Or throwing into triple coverage when Fuller intercepted, that was on Nelson? The extent to which Smith apologists are willing to swallow wild excuses is mind boggling at times.
However those future QBs proved their worth early in their careers, at least by their 2nd season. Geno's story isn't over yet - it's a fork in the road at this point.
Brees proved he was a good QB, he was just injury prone and the Chargers instead drafted a QB because of Brees's health issues. What about Russell Wilson? Nick Foles?
Brees was inconsistent on top of health issues. But the talent was there. He finally put it together in his 4th season.
Not to demean those guys and their skills but they're in quarterback friendly offenses in terms of Wilson & the constant under center play action that gets him in space and Foles and his air raid type offense. An under center running game and play action is a quarterbacks best friend but we thoroughly refuse to give this a chance.
Geno was throwing under center against the Bears, we used the play-action as well. I don't think he's a good play-action QB compared to a Russell Wilson or Foles. You don't think the system we have now is QB friendly? Foles was in the same system his rookie year. Geno just makes bad decisions with the ball. And we blame Marty for that.
The Foles of rookie season compared to 2nd season is night and day. Granted the Oline play by Philly was ass his rookie season but Foles did not turn it up until joing with Chip Kelly.
Foles still showed far more promise then Geno Smith his rookie year. I was praying, when shopping Revis that somehow we could pull a trade to get Foles to the Jets with Marty. Smith and Foles share a lot of the same skill-sets but I think Foles is far more smarter with the football.
to add, cumberlands measurables were before he gained 20+ pounds and ruptured his achillies. he is no longer that guy ... he has decent top end speed but terrible acceleration so it takes him forever to reach that speed
The pick 6 was 100% on Geno. Screens get busted all the time. there is deception involved, and when defenders read it, you dont have enough bodies for all of them. It was CLEAR from the outside the screen was busted. geno needs to throw that ball in the ground at the receivers feet and live to play another play. instead he tried to force it, and even then, it wasnt like the safety made a great play, Geno's throw missed the mark by a good 4 yards to the outside. well outside of the runningbacks grasp. watch the play again. Geno failed twice on that play, once in decision making and once in execution/accuracy. Geno doesnt need to be perfect, he just needs to not be so prone to mistakes/turnovers. Looking back at all his turnovers, all but 1 was avoidable. the pick against greenbay at the 3. he was hit as he threw and sudfeld did nothing to help him out. other then that, all really bad decisions on his part.
He showed promise and talent every year until he finally BROKE out in year 4. I guess you are looking at just the stat sheet hmm? The 3 QBs compared to Geno Smith - all 3 showed something more at this stage of the game.
Couldnt agree more. the bar has been set so low here for the QB position. I assume it has to do with sanchez being awful but the team still winning early on in his career. delusional sanchez defending led to an unreasonably low bar. Geno's positives are better then marks positives were... more accurate, more versatile, better on 3rd downs. but he still makes all the same boneheaded poorly timed mistakes that sanchez made. and those overshadow alot/all of the good things. We dont need Geno to be great, but him playing poorly and it being spun to where he is playing well is kind of riddiculous.
our problem isnt redzone, its turnovers. we can live coming away with 3 points, we cant live coming away with 0. sure we can do alot better in the redzone, but the (very avoidable) turnovers are a much bigger problem
Neither did the teams with terrible QBs. The titans didnt draft a QB every 2 years until they got it right - they are on year 4 of being terrible with jake locker The Jaguars drafted Blaine Gabbert the same year locker was picked, ditched him after a couple years, tried henne which didnt work for 2 years and now have Blake Bortles. whose situation would you rather be in, The titans continue to roll out a guy who clearly isnt the awnser, or the jags who may have found a QB of the future? would the jags be better off forcing blaine gabbert on the team? There is no magical formula to getting an elite quarterback. some are taken #1 overall. some are backups elsehwere that got a shot on another team. some where backups who got a chance because of injury. some where taken in rounds 3-7. some came from arena league. there is alot of luck and many circumstances involved. Their is one thing that is certain, once you realize the guy you have currently isnt the guy, you are best swallowing your pride and moving on. or else you get stuck making excuses for someone like sanchez or locker for 4 or 5 years
