For the most part he's throws the ball away and slides etc. He just either try's to make a play and makes bad decisions. Considering where he was last year his decision making is improved.

I agree. Too many in the Jet fanbase accept bad play from the Qb. I consider myself a Jet fan, and am angry that this clown is still throwing dumbshit passes, into triple coverage, into the hands of a safety when his nearest Jet was an offensive lineman, on fourth down he throws it out of the end zone.

One apparent problem that I am starting to see as a pattern is he seems too often to lose track of where he is on the field, as in that last pass attempt. Dissect that play for a minute. Even if he felt Kerley was his only real option on fourth down, at least give him a chance to make a play on it in the end zone.

How come this kind of thing is okay with the Smith Fans? I don't understand it.

Smith is not a rookie, and he continues to play like one. Him showing some marginal improvement from his awful performance level last season does not indicate he is on track to become an average NFL Qb. By that standard it is time to replace him and recognize a continued commitment to him is a waste.

At a minimum, recognizing this concept of investing in a developing Qb, I can compromise on this.

Let him start against Detroit. But his first turnover, bench him and play Vick. Leave Vick in and see if he can get it done. If not, go back to Smith in the next game, and repeat the foregoing.

I am here thinking Smith needs to get the message that turnovers are unacceptable. Ryan is being too forgiving in that regard. A different approach is required, even if you still think Smith can develop. Why can't we agree he needs to be taught a lesson?

I agree he has improved over last year but that's really not saying much at all. The bar is set too low if that's all we're going to be concerned with.

I feel like there's a faction on here who either missed or are ignoring all the ridiculous prayers he threw into coverage the other night that we were lucky to not have INTd. I mean just downright prayers tossed up in the middle of the field as if it were the last play.

that has nothing to do with the play calling or receivers or the oline btw. that's downright reckless decision making.

Correct. If Chicago's defenders had marginally better hands, Smith would have had four int's, not just two. He also had a ball come out; luckily he had his knee down just before the ball came out.

I give Geno one more game.

People need to stop acting that we have an amazing backup QB, though. Vick isnt the savior or anything, he could come in and be no better than Geno. He's just your typical backup QB. Everyone loves the backup QB until he has to play.

This is very true. Anyone who watched Vick's last two years in Philly will tell you this. Vick had major turnover issues. Egregious interceptions and fumbles. And that's not even getting into his consistent lack of durability.

I agree he definitely got away with a few. But he made some good plays too. I just think that he had to continue to progress. I don't think that's setting the bar low. That's just having realistic expectations. Considering how bad he was last year how much of an improvement do you think is realistic for him this year? He's playing much better this year. The offense is moving the ball. He made some mind blowingly bad decisions on Monday night. And even then he made some good plays as well. It's frustrating but these are the things you have to deal with at times from young developing QB's.

    You didn't know?
After nineteen games every quarterback in the NFL should be throwing seven touchdowns a game and have Peyton Manning level awareness.

Yes, he did some good things. The bad outweighs the good. Our difference lies in expectations. Last year was so bad that he needs to make a huge jump. Saying he improved over last year really doesn't say much. I should hope so.

No one is expecting Peyton Manning. This is a weak strawman argument by someone with low expectations for QB play.

For the bold are you talking about the Bears game or in general this year? If you're talking about the Bears game I can somewhat agree with that.

because three more weeks of this and Geno Smith might well put the Jets in too big of a hole to get out of. It's very valid to have the conversation now. If they are 1-5, then who the fuck cares who is QBing...

Looks like a three peat for the most Int's in the league again and some people want to give him a couple more years ? You must be kidding... He has had more than enough time. Way too many stupid decisions with the ball and not being able to play under center. It's obvious the team don't trust him or they still wouldn't be running those stupid trick plays. What a shame the season is over in week 2 with him under center. Oh, and I will be happy to eat crow if he amounts to anything more than a back-up. Until then I will keep listening to the Kool Aid drinkers excuses.

Geno does show some glimpses of talent, but that's why he is in the NFL guys. He consistently makes 3-5 moronic plays a week that put this team in a bad position. Couple that in with our inability create turnovers, our penalty issues, and our coaching staff's air-head calls and game management.... No wonder we are all very frustrated.

Geno needs to be near mistake free, somethig he does not have the ability to do. Look at all the pick 6's over the past 19 games (6 ), not to mention interceptions and fumbles in the red zone over these 19 games (I can't find that stat but I bet it's also appalling). Sanchez got killed on this board for the exact same mistakes, we deserve better. Pound the fucking rock with our 3 backs, use play action, and protect the ball. This is our only recipe for winning as our QB obviously is not ready to be an NFL caliber starter.

We are the 8th ranked offense in the league after 3 weeks,Geno and the offense have been moving the ball well ,if we can fix the redzone issues we will be fine.I think Geno has a turnover free game this weekend

If i am rex i might give vick a couple of extra first string reps in practice. Add a little extra pressure to geno this week. Not too much though, you still want geno to be loose. If geno has another game like this week i pull him mid game and hold off on naming a starter for the following week till friday.
