But that means the Jets should have had an extra 7 points and been in position to kick a FG to win the game. The Jets making mistakes does not excuse the refs from making horrific calls to go against the Jets. That's some dumb logic there. One has nothing to do with the other nor does it excuse it.
I follow the boards of a lot of NFL teams. Whenever a team loses, a thread appears that complains that the refs are out toget, insert team here, The Jets had some tough calls go against them, all teams do. I watched the game with a Bears diehard, he was screaming on every Jets offensive play that the Bears were being held. How you feel about the officiating on any game depends on the tint of your glasses, but the truth is the refs have been horrible so far this year, for everyone.
the refs get the walls call right and all of the sudden the game isnt the mess it was in the first half. the jets played poorly on offense, but the refs gave them a free touchdown with that call. they gave the bears a td, and took one away from the jets. how you can blame the jets for that is ridiculous. those refs should seriously be fined and suspended for a week. i dont care about the fumble call, that happens, but are you seriously telling me that a jets cornerback gets spun around and held and then gets a penalty called on HIM?
It is starting to look like an Al Davis situation lol, we really should just have one encompassing 'refs stink' thread unil further notice To be fair about the fumble though, I definitely thought Cutler was down before the ball came out in real time too. It's only when you see the slo-mo replays up close that you can see the ball was coming out beforehand. Unfortunately once the whistle blows, can't do anything about it.
I noticed that after ESPN called the Refs out on National TV, calls suddenly started to even out. Some even went our way and one that shouldn't have. Coincidence? I don't believe in them. Methinks a phone rang somewhere in the bowels of MetLife Stadium and a message got sent to the head Ref telling them to get their shit together out there. It was almost night and day the difference in the calls in the 2nd half.
Your points are valid. I like to think I lean more on the team and what they do throughout a game, than the overall bad calls that refs throw out from time to time. This season I've had an extremely bitter taste in my mouth every single game because of the refs. There is a reason for that. The refs have really fucked the pooch in every one of our games this far. I can't ignore that. Regardless of the tint of my glasses.
Whenever there was a penalty flag on the field and a discussion by the refs I just yelled, "it's the Jets!" "The Jets did it!"
It doesn't matter what color your glasses are tinted to know the refs directly subtracted a TD from the Jets before half yesterday.
I can count at least 4 instances where I was yelling at the refs. 1. Pass interference on Walls that should have been OPI called by the ref behind the play when the ref standing right next to him doesnt call it. 2. The fumble, just let the play finish and its a TD 3. The false start on Colon after Jared Allen jumped. How is it a false start when Colon moved up and down not forward. 4. The play where the defender doesnt even make a play in the ball on Kerley at the end of the game. Uncatchable maybe. However, the rookie level QB play didnt help. Neither did Chris Johnson sucking or Chris Ivory not playing. Also, not having a competent secondary or 3rd wide receiver does not help either. Lost opportunities and as usual same Jets games. Should be amazing trying to cover Calvin Johnson.
except there was actually a verrrrry similar play from Brady to Gronkowski a few years ago on the last play of the game where the refs didn't call it either. I don't have any problem with the refs letting guys play and I don't really think that was interference. What I do have a problem with is the inconsistencies and not calling it both ways. I am more pissed about the DPI call on Walls early in the game where he didn't do anything except get thrown on his ass by jeffrey than I am about the Kerley play that Geno chucked way high out of the end zone anyway.
Agreed. Stupid blind screen out of the box, down 0-7, deflating. Bottom line is they lost to a team that wasn't better than them, a team that had their own injury issues (lots of Bears were dropping last night). Jets also caught a break on 3rd and long at the end when the Bears were called for holding giving the Jets a much-needed 1st down. That supposed holding call was horsebleep soft. Bears LB dropped a sure in-his-mitts INT with 3:00+ min. left which would've pretty much sealed the deal as well -- breaks even out. Yes the refs blew some, it happens. But so what, the fact is the Jets shot themselves in the foot with mistakes, stupid mistakes, questionable play calling and exposed roster holes on both sides of the ball (inc. a crucial missed block by Winters in crunch time, again getting beat on the inside) imho. As for the Willie Colon false start, I can't for the life of me understand why there isn't a standard override by Mangold when a guy (Allen) jumps that far offside, i.e. Mangold yells "go" and snaps the ball while Allen's trapped waaay upfield in the neutral zone. If you look at the play, Mangold's helmet turns to his left---he clearly notices Allen jumping the snap count. Mangold's "go!" if nothing else is a heads up to the other lineman that the ball's being snapped -- it's a guaranteed 5 yards (and a free play) just sitting on the table. You can make the "not on the same page" argument against it (i.e. surprising Geno with the snap), however when it's THAT blatant and the center himself sees if then again I've no idea why they wouldn't look to snatch a freebie just sitting there on the table. Were you were like famous or something over there....should we here have heard of you?
I know people keep saying oh the Jets had opportunities to win, don't make excuses, etc. etc. However, if ANY of those 3 clearly incorrect calls were made correctly (the PI on Jeffery, Fumble blown down or PI on Kerley to end it), then the entire game changes. The Bears don't go up 14-0 to start the game, the Jets take the lead before the half ends, and/or the Jets get the ball at the 1 yard line with about 1 minute left in the game (TD + 2 point attempt). A team should never blame the refs for their loss, but when the refs decided the outcome of the game in such an explicit manner it is worth mentioning. I mean even Gruden was showing how questionable the PI call on Jeffery was, as well as the fumble recovery that was blown dead. These aren't excuses these are facts and Boger and his crew screwed us.
The call on the Cutler fumble was inexcusable. He wasn't even close to down when the ball came out which means the ref didn't actually see the ball or the knee but he blew the whistle anyway. The only things that could explain that bad a call would be an unusual amount of concern for the QB's well-being or a biased whistle by the ref. Looking at prior games would probably answer those questions for us.
Definitely bias whistle. It's amazing that some people don't see this. Last week's call was terrible, but there are ways you can go about excusing it. Bullshit ways, but there are ways. This call? There is no other excuse except bias. The ball came out before Cutler hit the ground. A ref blows a whistle before the quarterback is even taken down? Since when? I'm fact, in the Dolphins game, Tannehill was basically tackled and falling to the ground with a guy around his waist, but managed to throw the ball accurately to a receiver for a completion. Great play, but why wasn't the whistle blown there?
Idk. It wasn't that obvious, especially in real time, that it was a fumble. The way Cutler fell was the big thing.. .it looked like he put the ball away and it popped out when he hit the ground. Initially I thought it wasn't a fumble going by just gut, real time views. Obviously it was a fumble by the benefit of review but it wasn't that close on the field in real time. And guys pick up the ball and take it the other way ALL the time whether they know it was a fumble or not. It was just a mistake it wasn't bias.
