Like people have pointed out he doesnt have the intelligence...its just not there and you cant coach it.
Sanchez at least had a knack for being clutch and being comfortable in the red zone. Geno looks lost in the red zone. The red zone is red because it means stop for Geno.
What young QB isn't? Manning threw 28 picks in his rookie season. Luck threw 18 in his. Not trying to compare Geno to them, obviously, but you never pull the plug on a QB 19 games into his career.
Without a great team behind him as well. That said I always give QB's 3 full seasons before I become overly critical. So far this season he has shown some improvement, but today he regressed badly. As far as I'm concerned he's got 1 more year before I criticize him too much...that said I do draft a QB somewhere in the first 3 or 4 rounds next year for competition.
We also ran the ball more than any team in the league from 2009-2010. We played around Sanchez. Geno is in a spread/westcoast offense that's going to put the ball in the air with purpose every single game. Totally different world. Apples and Oranges.
I see no comparisons at all, Geno is much more fluid and moves the ball. It's just that we don't have the talent to score when we move the ball. sanchez was consistently going 3 and out, when we go 3 and out it's not for lack of effort by Geno. Smith is being forced to try and make plays that aren't there and that's not his fault. Look at the guys he is throwing to and I like how hard they work but Greg Salas is not an NFL caliber WR. He's got heart but he's not a guy who would make most good teams. David Nelson another guy, I love his fight and heart but he would be a #3 or 4 on most teams. His intelligence? I don't see any issues there, he is calling audibles (something I hardly ever saw of Sanchez) and he doesn't have a paint by numbers chart on his wrist either. Show me a QB that doesn't make mistakes.... every single one of them do. You can't expect him to make as few mistakes as Brees, or Manning. Honestly at this point he is a mid level QB on a bad team.
huh? Sanchez, the guy who led the NFL in redzone interception 2 of the last 4 seasons, was comfortable and clutch in the redzone????
But you are comparing them. Manning and Luck are #1 overall picks. You should be comparing Geno to the following guys: Kordell Stewart Todd Collins Tony Banks Jake Plummer Charlie Batch Shaun King Quincy Carter Marques Tuiasosopo Drew Brees Kellen Clemens Tarvaris Jackson Kevin Kolb John Beck Drew Stanton Brian Brohm Chad Henne Pat White Jimmy Clausen Andy Dalton Brock Osweiler Geno Smith
I don't see it at all. Sanchez there were games it seemed like it was a miracle if he completed a ball downfield that was not just a lobbed up prayer or a broken play. Geno consistently moves the offense in most cases. He's struggled w/ some situational football & the red zone but those things are correctable. I think this comparison is a stretch.
