Yeah, that play call only totally turned the game around and cost us the game. Glad you're fine with it.
That game struck something very primal for me, for some reason. Yesterdays loss is up their in the all time hurt column. I am solemnly awaiting this monday night game to see really what kind of team we are. How we respond will say a lot. I love Rex but I think he has to come out and win this game after that total shit show of a display yesterday.
Come on. Sudfeld looked like he was going for a back shoulder with plenty of room in the EZ. Geno got hit and Sud had his hips turned the wrong direction. You really want to blame him for not being a superman corner and breaking the pass up? I don't like his production so far, but this seems unfair.
I guess you are right. In addition to the head coaching job, running the defense, planning the invasion of ISIL, preparing the next moon launch, Ryan should also make sure each play called by Marty is proper, and he should also put puppet strings on Geno so he only throws to the right player. Oh, and don't forget that he needs to make sure his starting left guard can block. While we are at it, maybe he can make Congress and the President work together. There are a lot of things to be upset with Rex about. And I agree, that we should have played a little more conservatively at that point and that the interception was a HUGE turning point. But you need to be a little more realistic in your attacks.
While the interception TURNED OUT to be a prelude to GB getting back into the game, why is it that only the call is getting everyone pissed? GB at taht point had 3 measly FG's to show for their vaunted offense after nearly a full half of football in their home opener. They get the ball on their 3 yard line. How come what happened next does not get anyone's attention around here? After all, what made the play so bad in the end was that GB marched down the field and scored a TD. On what many here predicted is a top five Defense. Hm. On a going forward basis, THAT letup is more a concern than a single playcall on offense. Of course I acknowledge myself that I was not surprised their offense got it done there. But that's in part not jus them being a top offense. It also fits this disturbing pattern of the Jets D giving up big drives after they have largely shut down their opponent beforehand. Why does that happen? It is troubling.
We have possibly the worst 2 minute d in the league and this is a trend that has continued through rex's entire regime. We do not have a top 5, or top 10 d we are middle of the pack group. Nothing is special about our d this year and nothing was special about our d last year. Its sad to see so many 1st round picks invested in the defense and come out with just a dominating run stuffing d and nothing more. We rarely get picks, we rarely get consistent pressure, we NEVER create and recover fumbles. Teams tear us a new asshole when they figure rex out after the first quarter or so. Sometimes ( cough bengals) it doesn't take that long to figure it out. We seem to never make adjustments anymore. I don't know if this is a laziness or stubborn attitude from rex but it simply needs to stop. What worked at first and then stopped working isn't going to suddenly start working again when the O is targeting the weakness straight on. /End Rant sorry this week sucks.
Now that it's Tuesday I am pretty much over it. We Lost. We are 1-1 just like 18 other teams in the NFL. It would have been nice to have been one of the 7 teams that are 2-0, but that doesn't mean shit either. The Texans were 2-0 last year and ended up 2-14. 0-2 is a different story though. The key is making sure to get to week 4 with 2 wins. If you start 0-3 then your odds of making the playoffs are 8%. Your season is pretty much over before October even rolls around. If you start 1-2 it's about 28%. Still plenty alive, but have a nice hole to dig out of. 2-1 they are 60%. That's where we need to be. The bottom line is the Jets need to come out on Monday and find a way to beat the Bears or this season could go really bad, really quickly.
Like I said before yea we lost and it hurts but the good news is we lost to an NFC team and our division is very up for grabs
I hear you. I am reluctant to say the CS does not make in game adjustments to the D. But sometimes it seems like that, or perhaps that what adjustments they make are not usually effective. That may or may not have to do with the dismal examples of teams scoring on the D in the two minute. But it may feed into it. Over time I have to wonder if Ryan and the CS are great at game planning with their D, and if the opponent for whatever reason can't overcome the defensive game plan or can't figure it out, the Jet D will end up doing well. But if the opponent can overcome it, the Jet CS seems lost at making effective in game adjustments. Having said that GB does have one of hte best offenses in the league, so we don't want to be too harsh. It just kills me that the interception and field position should not have translated into a GB Td, but it sure did.
point is IF MM and Rex had RUN the ball and killed the 1st half clock, GB would not have been able to drive 97 yards and get back in the game. Any other coach knows the meaning of CLOCK MANAGEMENT, a concept foreign to Rex and HIS hand picked OC Marty Loser
teams shouldn't be able to drive 97 yards regardless of how they ended up there. for that we hold rex to the fire. going for the throat at the end of the half was a good idea.
We're past the two minute warning. The ball is on the GB 25 yard line. We have 1st and 10. Do we: 1. Chuck the ball up to the end zone, an endeavor that has 3 possible outcomes with two of them being bad and the third giving Aaron Rodgers a minute and 52 seconds to try to narrow the score? 2. Run the ball or a short pass to keep the clock moving and at least force the Packers to burn a timeout if they are so inclined? How exactly can the first option be seen as anything but a high stakes gamble with a potentially catastrophic and game-changing turnover as a possible result? How can the second option not be the thing that you do? The Jets had already seen a 21-3 lead go to 21- 9. Wasn't getting into the locker room with the last score and at least a 24-9 lead by far the best way to go there? You've stopped the Packers momentum and they still haven't scored a TD in the game AND you're getting the ball first in the 2nd half giving you a chance at going up 3 scores with just a FG. How can that not be the way to go there? I just don't understand. Why gamble with a 12 point lead and control of the game at that point. What on earth could possibly come from that? You score 6 between that drive and the first in the 2nd half and the Packers are over. Done. Even if you score 7 on that play you're still giving Rodgers nearly 2 minutes to engineer the Packers first TD drive of the game. It wasn't a good play call. When you have a good team down at home you keep applying pressure until they're out of time and out of options. Running out the last two minutes of the half and coming away with points was the best way to accomplish that task.
Agreed. That was a totally stupid call and I said it at the time. MM's stupidity call GAVE the Packers the game. I firmly believe that if the jets had run the ball 3 times, kicked the fiel goal, went into half 24-9 AND receiving the 2nd half kickoff, they would have won Sunday.
Fla--You are entitled to your opinion, but "going for throat" cost them the game. With an opposing QB like Rogers you run the clock, kick the FG and go into half with a 24-9. We saw what happened with your strategy.
You're overreaching here. His strategy did not include Winters giving up or Smith getting nailed as he released. His strategy also did not have Sudfeld give up on a play to a guy he had eight inches in height and a foot or more in wingspan on. An unimpeded throw should have connected with Sudfeld inside the five and may or may not have gotten him into the end zone. Either way, I like the idea of the knee-to-the-neck 28-9 halftime score, the regaining of momentum and the defense doing its job for 100 seconds or less. Giving up on putting the maximum points on the board by fearing 97 yards in that 100 seconds or less is no way to play an NFL game.
It's Rex's job at that point to look at MM and tell him to slow it down. That's what a head coach does. Games can turn on a dime, and that's where this one pulled a U-turn. Coulda, woulda, shoulda...it was a bad call.
