maybe I am remembering 9/11 which was a perfect day weather wise and just 2 days later but I don't remember that game being exceptionally hot.
All very fair but just as you guys are nervous and very excited about Derek Carr, we are nervous and very excited about our newest secondary cog taken in the same draft, Calvin Pryor who figures to be a huge part of the secondary. He was considered as the best safety in the preseason by PFF but I also get he played 2nd and 3rd stringers in the Bengals game that may have inflated that a tad bit(Still he looked really good despite missing the 1st game with a concussion). I think he adds a new dimension to our secondary that an Ed Reed last season did not. There will be growing pains surely but the guy seems like the complete package at safety where he showed a little of everything this preseason, whether with legal/big hits, good open field tackling, turning his head around on a pass, good football IQ and even calling out plays in the secondary(Which will be huge with him and Landry making sure Walls/Allen/Wilson are in the right spots). Carr will hold onto the ball if the WRs do not get separation on this level. Geno faced the same issues last season but Geno had the feet to scramble if not burst for some yards. Remains to be seen if Carr has the same faith in his legs, he might need to. Just have to hope he doesn't become a statue which was a gripe I had of his at Fresno St. Its important for Moore/Rivera/Jones/Streeter to get open and in a hurry. Nevermind facing us you guys got Clowney, Watt, Reed and Cushing to deal with Week 2. In hindsight, it seems like it is good for Menelik Watson to not start because he would be facing some really talented and athleticism specimens in Coples and Clowney to start this year which is trouble. Yeah Adams isn't really too good and he might be cut as soon as Milliner is back and healthy so here's hoping he doesn't factor too much. But I don't wanna get too crazy about Carr spanking the Seahawks 1 team..... They do not want to get themselves hurt or give the Packers any kind of ammo for the game that matters 1 week after so that game was a half assed effort on their end. But still Carr did what he needed to do and no one can fault him for succeeding but I don't want to get too nuts over that performance, the Seahawks D are clearly saving up for their emotional home opener just 1 week after that game. Geno can dissect secondaries though and what is tough is how mobile he is where he can buy time for our WRs to get open or down the field and if he doesn't like what he sees, he has the speed and good whereabouts to tuck the ball and dash for some yards. He will have mistakes absolutely but Geno looks very composed and has an idea out there of what he is doing which is night and day from last season where because of the surrounding talent and because he was a rookie, there were games he was putrid out there. Chris Johnson I am torn about but I would be careful of Ivory because he is the much more dangerous runner as far as YPC goes as he is tough to take down when he's on that field(Health has been his problem). I hope C2K rips off some big runs but I think Chris "The Closer" Ivory might have the stronger game for YPC and maybe even a TD when its all said and done. He had a very strong game vs you guys last season. The way he runs is relentless and fun to watch, its very violent and Ivory has no regard for himself the way he bursts through holes and churns his legs for extra yards. He's going to be murder for teams in the 4th quarter IMO so if the Jets are up, the Raiders old defense might not like seeing Ivory out there. Tuck, Woodson, Woodley are not going to enjoy Ivory. I hope Ivory becomes that closer for us this season. We saw him destroy the Pats in OT last season at home. [youtube]
Yeah 9/11 was just a spectacularly beautiful day until the attack. I remember thinking how beautiful the sky was before the second plane hit. Geezuz can't believe how long it's been. Yeah the Jet game was hot--I remember me and my wife wearing all white shorts and tee's and still having to go under the stands to cool off. _
The Jets need to take care of business on Sunday. That is the bottom line. Going to GB will be tough and a likely loss (though not impossible to win), then they need to take care of the Bears and Lions at home. Starting off 3-1 is crucial for the team. 2-2 at the worst. This could put more pressure on the Jets than the Raiders on Sunday. I like the WHITE OUT idea, forcing the Raiders to wear their black jerseys. Don't know if it will be a factor, but I like it. I would attack Carr early on Sunday. Rattle him as soon as possible. If that happens, should be Jets all day. If the Jets start out slow, it could give the Raiders a chance.
Carr has never been one to hold the ball, in college his system dictated that he dumped the ball quickly, and he hasn't shown signs of it here, even when playing against the Seahawks with Sherman and co. playing. as for escaping, Geno ran a 40 around 4.59 or so, and Carr turned in a 4.65. Neither are really running qb's but their speed is similar.
ivory is a beast physically, but we all remember when MJD leveled Merriman. there's nothing impressive about a helmet-helmet play though
He didn't play against the first team defense in Seattle in that last preseason game. If he did do you have proof? I like Carr as a prospect but it's going to be a work in progress. He's easily flustered by pressure and he does have a tendency to hold onto the ball too long. That's evident on any scouting report you read. The offense in college still dictates a quick passing offense but that doesn't mean the QB doesn't hold onto the ball longer then he should. I've seen the guy play in college for 2 yrs. Good prospect though.
yeah, it was just preseason, but it was still cool to see him face the starters, including sherman. as long as he comes out of this game healthy it will be a good learning experience. the jets secondary is beatable, and its a matter of keeping the young guy upright
our secondary is obviously the major concern. the game will come down to our front 7, if they are getting pressure and Rex is dialing up blitzes to confuse Carr we'll win. if we can't get pressure even a rookie in his first start will likely pick apart our secondary.
Smart move by the Jets to wear all white. Although it wont be to hot, if the Raiders have to wear black it will suck for em =p.
PREDICTION TIME: The Jets actually play pretty well to open the season. Carr is overwhelmed by the front 7 and the CB's play pretty good. Geno Smith does what he has to, but the Jets run alot. CJ2K makes a great Jets debut with a 100+yard game and 2 TD's. Jets win this one going away: 31-13.
2 more days ... if we get an early lead on the Raiders, we have to put it in over-drive and beat those fucks to the ground! Last game we kind of let off the gas pedal.
I dunno about easiest on the schedule but I agree about seeing if Geno is the real deal. I'm really hope for a strong start.
