Rex will be fired if he has a really bad year, unless its because of our pass defense then you can argue that its Idziks fault.I don't see Rex having another GM he either succeds under Idzik or is done
They're both going to be here for awhile. They have meshing strengths and that's going to create a very good situation for us moving forward. If you have a front office and coaching staff where everybody is on the same page all the time that just means that the thing that takes them down will be a total blindside. Between Rex and Idzik they're looking at more than a typical organization does because they don't have exactly the same viewpoints on what wins in the NFL. That makes the whole effort stronger and more resilient. As an example: Rex prefers press man coverage with exotic blitzes. Idzik comes from more of a Cover 2 background. The NFL is evolving at this point into a competition where a strong mix of both styles will be almost mandatory. If you're in press man all the time the penalties will absolutely kill you and it's going to be hard to match up against teams that have several strong receiving options. Having Rex put in the position where he has to have a Cover 2 game plan alongside his normal press man will make the Jets defense better against the evolving offenses the NFL throws at defenses today. Rex, btw, does just fine when he runs a Cover 2. It isn't his preferred scheme but against some offenses it is the better move. The Jets would have been much better off in the AFC title game in 2009 if they had a reliable Cover 2 scheme to go too when the pressure wasn't getting to Peyton Manning fast enough.
The safe bet is Idzik based solely on the fact that most GM's get at least 2 coaches before they're fired. Idzik hasn't even hand picked one yet.
The logical answer is Idzik, but the guesses this thread will inspire will tell more about the posters than the Jets. Might as well try to rank the NFL coaches.
No way RR can survive a second GM firing. That's just silly. He will be gone first if we don't contend.
Just to clarify. Is your intent to find out who the board would want to last longer or which one we think probably will? Also, are we referring to tenure from this point or as a whole. Note Rex already has 4 years of Jets tenure on Idzik. Idzik could fire Rex and still end up having a shorter tenure.
Unless things go straight to hell this season I could see Rex and Idzik getting 1 more year next year and then both be sent packing if we dont become serious contenders.
You should put a 3rd option that states both would leave at the same time. Just to see how many posters think Woody would just clean house to reboot with a new regime.
There should be a "they last the same time" option. But if you had to pick between just those options it would have to be Idzik since he inherited Rex initially.
This really shouldn't be a question. Idzik is the new guy and if a problem arose where a decision needed to be made between the two it would be Idzik. Woody would give him a chance to bring in his own guy before letting him go.
I'm getting to the point where I'd like to see anything from rounds 3 and later. Right now... it's for shit.
When is the last time a HC outlasted a GM? I'm starting to think that the decisions made by Idzik this offseason may sink them both.
I think they did some damage in free agency, and Amaro may actually prove out. I just am beginning to question whether the volume versus quality option they chose in the draft was a good decision.
