Yeah, I've never understood the hate. The interview Soxx posted is pretty insightful too--debunking that he's really a Dolphin fan or that he claims to have created the chant. I don't really care if he's an asshole or not--I've heard people on both sides give varying views on his personality--people that have met him or know him. You know who else is a REAL asshole? Chrisitian Bale--but I still go to and love his movies. Point is, we're not living with the guy--he's just doing the chant and (i) no one has ever done it better and (ii) it's the greatest chant in sports. _
As if that's the compensation HE should pay because of the perks. Makes no sense that anyone should be physically or verbally attacking the guy, whether you like him or not. _
So how was the opening day J-E-T-S chant? They assign a different season ticket holder each game to lead the chant. Did it work out?
How did the chant work out with a new leader? Was it stadium wide? Can't find any video of the opening kick-off.
It didn't have it's luster. They showed him before the opening kick and once after, IIRC. I just think a guy in a neon yellow vest is kinda tacky.
I like the concept of trying to find a new "Ed" but the cameramen need to get on board also. We had the best Jets chant since FE retired -not saying it was great but the best since. The guy doing the chant should get 3x's to rally the crowd so people can figure out the cheer is back after the first 2 half hearted attemps. We also need the cheer during the kick to the opposing team after we score. 2/3x's also. If we stay consistent it will catch on with the regulars and the ones who go on occasion will quickly follow the crowd once it takes off.
can`t someone just do it the way it use to be done? Why all the camera attention(whore?). Someone needs to take charge in their section and just keep doing it. Eventually most of the section will join, then the next section, and so on. It`s a friggin joke having the Jets look for the next cheerleader. It`s a disgrace imo. Just someone get some balls and do it, otherwise sit there like the corporate crap it is. Which imo, is why it will never fly again. Get rid of the corporate douchebags drinking $19 martinis and lower the ticket prices so the real fans come back. Then you`ll hear that chant again.
I remember going to games in the old stadium sitting in the upper deck. There were guys with whistles that would come down to the front and get all the fans standing for the chant.
thats the section I sat in for about 23 of the 27 years I had tickets. I was in 319 row 1. Greatest seats in the old stadium. Screw the 50 yd. line seats, the EZ was so much better. No one in front of us but the entire field. You were able to see holes opening/closing, blown pass coverages, wide open WRs. Only bad things were when the ball was on the opposite side, the glass in the first row when it was a rainy day and there was no roof, heat or air conditioning. Other than that, they were the best seats. I use to sit opposite 319 from 84-90. We had Helmet Head doing the chant on that side and the guys with the whistles were originally from Klecko`s Corner in the 319(318 or 320) section. They would get everyone fired up. Loved the candy they would throw out. Got all the little kids excited, as well as the women if they`d get a "blow pop". Those days are so long gone now it will NEVER be again. But hey, thats exactly what Woody & The Jets wanted. They want $$$$$$ and nothing more. Not even a Lombardi imo. As long as the $$$$ keeps flowing in from the new fans, they couldn`t give a rats ass.
How is getting people to yell 4 letters after a TD so F-in complicated?!?!?1 After they score, play the air raid siren, then flash the letters on the screen....and let the crowd participate. Are people really too stupid to figure that out. Hell, they need to do it when the JETS are on Defense too
