The guy was an embarrassment. And by many accounts a total douche. And his one job that earned him all of those perks, he didn't really know how to do. I'm not the only one that's glad he's in the rearview.

I think some of the anger that was directed at him was because he was treated by many as the ONLY Jets fan, the one "true" fan that was needed to rally the indifferent Jets fans in the stands and get them cheering for their team. Even 3000 miles away without the ability to attend a single game, it bothered me a little. There are a LOT of fans every bit as passionate as Fireman Ed, but they were never acknowledged. I did not direct any of that annoyance at him, but he did also start acting like he WAS the only fan that mattered.

I agree with Ed. A bunch of young guys -- showing how tough they were (and I guess that they were also jealous) -- wouldnt stop...so he quit. The new stadium doesnt "hold" the noise like the old one did.

I found it very lame that the Jet play a recorded chant from the Fireman Ed days at the first preseason game. For all the Fireman Ed Lovers / Haters, here is an article I found today:

    http://www.complex.com/sports/2014/...&utm_term=Daily&utm_campaign=Daily 2014-08-15

The Jets Wanted Fireman Ed Back

Well it was a staple that set the tone for New York Jets games with an undeniable jolt through the stadium. Unfortunately, it was absent last season after Fireman Ed decided to step-down from his unofficial position as face of the Jets. Turns out management wanted him back. According to Fireman Ed (real name Ed Anzalone) back in April the organization "called me to see if I would come back to what I had done. They took me out to lunch to see if I had any interest in coming back.”

For Fireman Ed it was an easy answer "No." That's because the same problem faces the diehard upon his return. After all, Ed left due to him wearing a Mark Sanchez jersey which rubbed some fans the wrong way. They saw him as an extension/tool of the franchise and threatened his "well-being." They did this of course because they're insane.

Still if you're a season ticket holder you can have your shot if you submit a video to the team. The role is vague, you're replacing a legend and (from what we can tell) it doesn't pay anything. It's a mighty tempting offer and so we're wondering: Anyone out there willing to step up and fill the void?
