Somebody who lives in Hawaii, aka part of the United States of America. That's why I found it amusing when you said Americans probably came up with the idea not Hawaiians, because technically Hawaiians are Americans. I thought it was around, but it's called different names. In some places it's pork roll and in others it's Canadian bacon (although I think CB is very slightly different in the way its prepared). I'm pretty sure that McDonalds puts it on egg mcmuffins so it has to be nationwide, right? I've read that it's only around NY/NJ/PA areas, but can't confirm. No egg sandwich is complete without it IMO. And for the love of Zeus, use cheddar cheese, not that American phony cheese-food stuff! Taylor ham, egg and cheddar on a roll with butter = god's sandwich. But it's a heart attack waiting to happen. ACL Spaghetti sounds pretty tasty actually!
It's crazy, but things are panning out to be very similar on defense to Seattle. Rex has always said Antonio Allen reminds him very much of Ed Reed. Players at camp are reporting that AA is light-years ahead of where he was last year. We also just drafted Calvin Pryor, who I think will be an absolute stud. Let's say both pan out like they should. We have two awesome safeties that will dominate the backend. Now look at the linebackers. You have a guy like Demario Davis who has been compared, by Rex, to the likes of Ray Lewis. Everything is pointing sky high right now for Davis, so let's say he becomes something special. Now you have a dominate linebacker to patrol the middle. The defensive line speaks for itself, making a case for the best in the league. The only thing left would be the corners, which could pan out if Milliner and McDougle show promise. This defense could be in the midst of becoming a completely dominant unit like Seattle. The similarities are scary. I am so excited for this youth. I think keeping Rex is imperative though, as this defense was built with his hands.
Just a few questions here. What's the point of having the defense completely dominate the offense? We already know the D can play at a high level but the offense is still trying to get itself situated. Could all of this actually stunt the growth of both Geno and MM's system? Wouldn't it be prudent to let the Jet offense get itself established first before putting it up against all the exotic defenses Rex can throw at it? Maybe go to a base defense for a time and let MM get his system established and working properly? Is Rex sacrificing the development of the offense for the sake of having a dominant defense? Just asking the questions folks..
The only way the offense will grow is to go up against a potent defense. If Geno and the offense folds because of a strong defense, then there's many more issues that need to be addressed. The only way you can gauge and grow a unit is by putting it up against a strong competition. It's also hard to tell what they are doing considering we are just reading reports and watching videos. I doubt Rex is throwing a bunch of different schemes to completely confuse the offense, but at the same time, it will help the offense pick apart other teams defenses. When the offense clicks and beats our defense, it makes it that more likely that they will beat a majority of defenses during the season.
AA doesnt have the range of earl thomas tho, and Demario Davis isnt as dominant as Bobby Wagner at least not yet , to your point our D-line is better but i think we are built difrently since our strenght is in the front 7 and hawks strenght its clearly in the back end. Doesnt mean we cant be as dominant just both teams use what they got.
And I agree, but my comment was in the anticipation that guys like Davis and AA turn into dominant players like they seem to have the potential of doing. AA doesn't have the range, as of yet, but that's something that players have said he is improving dramatically on. Davis can't be compared to Wagner as of now, but if he makes the strides he has been making, he very well could be just as good or better. This isn't based on now. This is all dependent on the growth of the youth. Yes, Seattle is built in the backfield, but that makes the chances of the Jets unit to be even better than Seattle that much higher. If the Jets can hit a homerun at corner, they are instantly the best defense in football. Dominant line, great corners, and great safeties. We have the line Seattle is missing. They have the corners we are missing. If we can hit just on one dominant corner, it makes a strong case for being just as dominant.
True stuff just makes me regret a bit why we didnt even try to sign Revis but i know most will disagree here , we would be lock on playoffs with him.
I think it was more than just football. If Revis was on this team, we would definitely be in the playoffs. The defense alone would win us a bunch of games, and with an improved offense, you could bet a lot we'd be in the hunt. I just think Idzik and Co. don't want his contract and "me first" issues around this team. Idzik is building a very young team and it almost seems like he thinks a guy like Revis would hinder that growth. Although, with all the money we will have, I can see him signing Revis to a long term deal next offseason. I doubt it will happen for my above stated reasons, but I can also see him doing it to improve the secondary.
Ditto, what the fuck is a "Tower"? I've been eating "PORK ROLL, cheese or egg/cheese on a Kaiser" my whole life (40+yrs in the North Shore area). Never heard anyone call it a Tower, even from those benny's who call it "taylor ham" up in Boony NJ. As everyone in the know knows, outside of NJ & Philly, Pork Roll is a rarity. Can't believe it hasn't crossed the Hudson. But every now and then on a road trip we'll stop by a bagel or sandwich shop (ie. Vermont) and find a specialty "Jersey" Sandwich that consists of pork roll/egg/cheese.
You can only get better by playing an opponent who is better then you. The time for getting situated is in the 7 on 7s and positional drills. They ( the offense ) have to be ready to regurgitate their responsibilities instantly in the heat of the game, while digesting a play. Something they're getting really great prep for by facing Ryans defense. If you tone it down for the offense you might see issues when we go live, I would much rather them struggle early then to see them light it up against a JV squad/effort. Additionally, The defense has been good, yes. But as DD stated it still has room to grow, and it needs to grow to get to that next level. I would not sacrifice that growth for an easier time at practice for our offense. You also have to remember the practices get dialed back big time once the season starts, So there's plenty of time to help dial in the little nuances with shorts / runthrough practices.
On the defensive side I couldn't agree more but I disagree somewhat about the offense. On offense you're relying heavily on timing and practice is where that timing needs to be synced up. Yes, things break down in game situations and players need to react but before you get to that level, IMO, you should have timing well down in the ideal situation. Having the ideal situation down pat will also help you recognize the breakdowns. Offense is similar to a dance routine in some ways. There's also the fact that Rex's defense throws things or there that they will almost never see in an actual game. So what good is practicing against that?
Idk, I always assumed Pork Roll Egg and Cheese was the universal name in NJ. Being from the "Central" Jersey area - that's what we called it.
I kinda feel bad for the offense.. Goal line day against our D-line isn't a very good way to follow up a turnover fest like yesterday. I think they'll be getting an earful after today, not really their fault though. Do you remember how many stops we made on the goal line or on 4th and short last year? Honestly you could make the line of scrimmage 1 yard deep into the endzone and our line could still find a way to tackle you behind the goal line.

Is the Pork Roll cooked or just on there as a cold cut and warmed by the egg? I am in San Diego but a local supermarket sells it and that sounds like a delicious Sunday breakfast
