Favre didn't "tank" the season, he didn't "sabotage" the season, he wasn't nefariously plotting for the Vikings to win whilst ignoring the Jets (just a fucking stupid conspiracy theory), he wasn't doing any of that shit the Favre haters are alleging.

He played as he always did, played his ass off gunslinging TDs and INTs just as he always had done and he was being the ultra-competitive QB he had always been and tried to win every game he could.

He got injured, not hurt, not banged up, not tweaked-injured and but for that injury he would have taken us to the SB and he STILL would have left the following year for the Vikings to exact his revenge.

He didn't purposefully tank our season because he was apathetic about the Jets and was only interested in exacting his revenge. He could have been obsessing about GB and STILL have played his ass off for us which he did.

If you have an anti-Farve agenda of course you're going to allege he "tanked" the season.

    So stupid.

I agree with you but why are you so sure we would've won the SB?

Miss me some Chad. I really thought he was the future. Yeah, yeah, he didn't throw long. That could be taught & conditioned. He was throwing short cuz he didn't have enough fraking time to wait for receivers to get downfield! This is exactly how we ruined the poor kids shoulder... Still have my Chad action figure debut, series 7... To bad about him.

you should watch more football. That game was in September, it was one of a few really good games from favre. The Cards were just 9-7 in the reg season, a completely different team in postseason. we weren't even good enough to make it to postseason. they would have steamrolled us if we played again but of course thanks to Favre we weren't good enough to make it to postseason.

Ari vs. Carolina reg season: Lost 27-23
Ari vs. Carolina playoffs: Won 33-13

Ari vs. Philly reg season: Lost 48-20(bigger blowout than our game)
Ari vs. Philly playoffs: won 32-25

It wasn't mainly due to Favre, he was playing his best football but the division was weak, we had no Brady, we just beat the supposed best team in the AFC but it only took a week for the real Favre to show up again and begin to dash the SB and playoff dreams.

He was FINE to play, his arm was not as strong as usual but it was still very good. The problem was he continued to make stupid decisions and they were hurting him more late in the season than early in the season.

he doesn't get a pass for playing through pain.

Brett made just 2 SBs w/ vastly superior packer teams, how is it we were going to the SB w/ him? he always found a way to choke like he did the year before w/ GB and like he did a year later w/ Minny. To say we were going to the SB is ridiculous.

I don't believe he tanked on purpose, if you look back on his career he was not a great big game QB and late in his career the cold seemed to affect him unlike earlier in his career. he looked like he didn't want to play.

I am not a Favre hater.

    He didn't tank

he did sabotage our season w/ his awful play though and he was helping detroit(and who knows what other teams) prepare for GB.

The man made his career playing through pain, he doesn't get an injury excuse.

Chad was very underrated here BUT he couldn't stay healthy and had too many injuries to a throwing shoulder that wasn't strong to begin w/.

Had we kept Chad we easily win the division in 2008.

Had they kept Pennington in 2008 he doesn't even make it out of TC as the starter, let alone finish the season winning the division. I doubt the Jets would've won the division with Kellen Clemens as their starter but I'm certain they would've if Favre had stayed healthy.

Huh? how in the world would a healthy Chad not beat out kellen Clemens? Assuming Chad stayed healthy like he did in Miami we EASILY win the division.

Favre was healthy enough to win and he failed like so many other years in big spots.

Because Clemens looked better than Pennington the year before - had the support of the CS and had a significant edge in the QB competition going into that season. If was his job to lose. Pennington was done here whether they traded for Favre or not. He definitely wouldn't have recreated that magic they had in Miami that year.

The Jets closing the books on the Pennington era in 2008 was the best thing to happen to this organization at the time and to Pennington as well. He needed a fresh start somewhere and they needed move on from him either way (by benching or cutting).. he was too unreliable with a limited ceiling to begin with.

Pennington leaving and having "success" was overrated anyway. He really only had one good year in Miami. They caught lightning in a bottle with that wildcat stuff, and he played like Chad Pennington: protected the ball, accurate and effective but couldn't beat a good defense, thus the early playoff exit.

Chad was HURT, Clemens still looked horrible so no he didn't look better.

If he had the support of the CS why did they bring in Favre w/ less than a month to go before the season?

for Chad it was always about health, when he was healthy and starting 3/4 of our games we were a playoff team. when he was hurt and missing more games we stunk.

2002 started 12- won div title
    2003 started 9- 6-10
    2004 started 13- made playoffs
    2005 started 3- 4-12
    2006- started 16 made playoffs
    2007-started 8- 4-12
2008 Miami started 16- won div title
    2009 Miami started 1, 7-9

If Chad was here and healthy we easily win the div title. It wound up being good for us b/c after Favre sabotaged our season we got Rex and Sanchez and were closer to a SB than at any other point in my life but it still cost us a rare div title.

At least give Favre credit for trying to tough it out with a torn tendon. Vinny tore a tendon and was like "Fuck this shit I'm outta here". Big pussy. It wasn't even his throwing foot.

Very well said. Had Chad remained with the Jets (and somehow secured the starting job) we probably win only 3-4 games that year regardless of whether the bright but terribly fragile and weak armed QB played through an entire season or ended up on IR after the first game or two. Pennington was truly a great guy but is was just so painful watching him throw the ball. You had to hold your breath every time he attempted a simple 15 yard out pattern for fear it would be intercepted for an easy TD down the sideline or sail out of bounds like child's two day old, helium-filled balloon. He was a very good game manager but was essentially doomed in most late game, come from behind scenarios due to his palsy arm strength and inability to deliver the ball to his chosen receiver quickly enough.

Had Favre not torn his biceps tendon we certainly would have advanced into the playoffs if not have gone all the way. The impact of the injury on his passes (and our resulting ability to win games) particularly his accuracy and velocity was readily apparent to anyone with even a child's eye for the game. After Dr. James Andrews performed his surgical procedure, Favre recovered his previous arm strength and accuracy which was reflected by his performance with the Vikes...

Just busting balls . When something can't be retroactively proven, it's fun to make declarative statements so as to entice someone to try and prove the opposite. Kind of like me busting your balls on the Geno first round draft grade :D

But in all seriousness, at 8-3 we were IMHO the best team in the AFC (and no Brady), we had a certain mojo going on and I truly believe had Favre not gotten injured --again, not hurt, injured--he would have gotten us into the playoffs, deep into the playoffs and a legit shot at the SB.

Btw, me stating that Favre was injured has nothing to do with FAVRE himself playing the injury card--he's not posting here and making excuses for himself. It's me seeing what was going on and making judgments on what I saw.

That was part of the problem--he never PLAYED the injury card and had he had a touch of humility maybe he would have sat himself to try to get healthy. I can play the injury card because I'm not Brett favre--he NEVER played that card.

He was injured. He just wouldn't admit it or more importantly succumb to it.

huh? his entire career he played the injury card. he would do it a year later in No blaming his choking for getting beat up in that game by having his agent send out a photo of his leg and ankle.

His legacy in the league was being able to play through any pain but he also milked it and used it as an excuse when he didn't play well.
