Too soon to call Hill a bust

Discussion in 'New York Jets' started by Turbocharged23, Jun 13, 2014.

  1. Really? Why don't you go back to 2007 & read some of the posts on here about Revis.

That said you can think whatever you want about me. Your respect or lack thereof means nothing to me. Get over yourself. And that goes for any one else who wants to take a shot at me just b/c I actually ROOT for my team & its players & don't crown a player a bust the first time he makes a mistake.

Is it to soon to call him a bust? Nope, many people already have. However he is very young and still has time to turn it around and make a good career for himself but so far, yeah big bust

They'll be nitpickers for some of these but there are Plenty more;you asked for "just a few". This one was alot easier than originally anticipated. You'll notice I stayed away from former 1st round picks & tried to focus on players who had similar draft day value to that of Mr. Hill.Any way you slice it years 3 & 4 were when the proverbial "light" went on, in terms of production. Numbers don't "talk from their ass"

Ahhhh did I hurt your feelings? You should have waited to buy the Hill jersey.

Your IQ isn't high enough to be able to hurt my feelings.

Mann.. a WR that cant catch is a bust. Sorry. Im rooting for him to get better but its just a tease thinking about how good he can be if he just caught the damn ball. Him and decker & amaro being about 6'4-6'5 would be amazing to watch esp in the red zone.

I'm as anti-Hill as it gets, i think hes a joke but This is a good post.

I'd add Laverneaus Coles too, if I remember correctly it took him a couple years to develop.

The only thing though is that Hill looks completely lost out there, and while I'm not going to say I followed all those guys early careers, I highly doubt they looked AS lost and futile as Hill has. Cotchery and Coles I know for a fact didn't. I would be really surprised if he turns out to be any sort of a player in this league.

Not sure what your "talking out the ass" comment was about. I asked a question since people make this claim all the time and never back it up. If you think that means I'm talking out my ass well then good for you.

Thanks for the list. You were pretty liberal in 3rd year breakouts including 4th year guys and guys who were already good in year two but had enough good examples that fit.

I still don't think I would characterize it as typical but at least we have something to point to now.

My IQ is high enough not to buy a jersey of a player most ppl think is a bust. You should have waited and gotten it for $5. It's hanging with the Sanchez jerseys in the back of the store.

I've never been a big jersey guy at all, but during the 2010 year when the Jets were the lovable, brash NY team and everyone loved them, I was gifted 3 jerseys throughout the year: A Sanchez, a Revis and a Dustin Keller. Talk about jinxing them!!!

  12. The "ass" comment wasnt directed at you..my apologies for any confusion.

Never been a jersey guy, even when I had decided favorites. It's too much about the team for me. I admit I was once tempted, but didn't consider it much beyond thinking about it when i realized they did not even have a Quincy Carter jersey.

    Heh.

  14. Im skeptical about Hill but lets not forget he's had some good days both in game as well as practice. We also dont really know how serious his knee issue was.If that was a legit dehabilitator & hes finally healthy again maybe hes able to round out his game. He either steps up & wins the #2 job or hes gone b/c he contributes nothing on ST

What role do you think his playing his second year in the same offense might make? Most criticisms of Hill devolve to two kinds. One is he has poor hands for a receiver, which is problematic for the future. But the other is how he looks/gets lost out there, which imo coaching might be able to help with. That and his knowing the system.

(I would also add he's played with two awful Qb's, so there's that, but don't want to start another argument about the Jet Qb's.)

All those guys listed are familiar with catching the ball.

Lol. My only jerseys are Chrebet, Testaverde, and Martin. Keep trying.

  19. Well I don't subscribe to the same theory you do about Hill's hands. Yes he's dropped a few but you act like he drops everything. It simply isn't true. He has average hands for a WR & can lack co0ncentration. That's a fair & reasonable evaluation. But this notion that he "can't catch" & is "Young Braylon 2.0" is just overreaction.

If he can't catch how did he manage to put up stats in games?

Saw this headline today in the Star Ledger and I just had to laugh:

"Stephen Hill: I'm Basically My Own Biggest Critic"

No Stephen - I assure you that's not the case. You have created plenty of critics with your play on the field. They are called Jets fans. :D
