he did a good job for us, that's all I care about.

I like Marty, I think he's good but he's a different type of OC than Brian. I wouldn't call one better than the other. Marty was very frustrating at times last year too. To act like marty is Bill Walsh is a little silly.

The QB play has been spotty since he's been here, but the running game has been decent to elite. I don't think he's done a good job.

Marty's reputation speaks for itself, he's one of being one of the top football minds in the NFL. He is far less frustrating then Schottenheimer, the only negative in Marty's game is short yardage positions, but I think he improved this.

Brian wouldn't last an hour in Marty's shoes.

Hackett had better talent to work with, but the Jets were ultimately more successful with Schotty. Neither is HOF calibre, neither is as terrible as whiny fans make them out. Both were and are pretty average.

QB aside Schotty always had more talent on offense to work with.

that couldn't be more incorrect. Hackett had Curtis, Coles, Moss, Chrebet, Jordan. That's better than what Brian had to work with. 2010 was close but we didn't have very good Rbs that year and Holes was suspended 4 games while Cotch was banged up.

Ftr while many complained about Schotty, I am not sure I would say it was a majority. But certainly too large a number complained about Schotty. He was pretty average.

I have been working really hard all offseason, I may debut a couple of new lines but I want to make sure they are ready first.:D

The ironic thing about all of this is that if Hackett was Rex's OC and Schotty was Herm's OC, I think things would have been a lot different for both (in a good way).

I voted for Schotty. He was the better play caller by a slight margin. Didn't like either one all that much, but Schotty got a godawful 2006 offense to look competent. That's impressive enough to give him the win.

Both got scapegoated and got more blame than they deserved. But if I had to choose I'd say Schotty was better.

Rich Kotite was better HC than Brian Schottenheimer as OC.

    Check the talent.

Neil O'Donnell [first 6 games] -> Frank Reich.

Whatever QB Brian had, he was 10000x better than the combination above. Dispute that, then talk.

Add spectacular talent of... ADRIAN MURRELL!! YES, HE WAS THE STARTING RB!!

Keyshawn and Chrebet were about the only bright spot of the team. [And neither eclipsed 1000 yard mark.]

Things look much more bleak on defensive side - so don't even bother.

[Ray Mickens/Bobby Houston/Bobby Hamilton, etc. A string of no-namers that wouldn't even be a 3rd stringer in any competent team were starting for that team.]

In short - talent level shouldn't be used as an excuse for OC and above. It is more likely that the OC [or HC in case of Kotite] is responsible for nurturing the talent out of the players.

As for the performance, Brian is taking a lot of shit - that I agree. He was at best a mediocre OC. Not a good one. Mediocre one. [Don't start the 'who did he have for xxx' argument. Kotite is smiling at you.]

The essence of the Schotty vs. Hackett:

    "3rd and 9 run a draw"

    vs.

"3rd and 9 have all your receivers run a 6 yard curl"

Well said. Both obviously had major hurdles to overcome as far as the talent that they were given but both also had a knack for calling some of the most frustratingly illogical plays ever. It's a tough call...

Coles was always overrated by us Jets fans. He was never a true #1 WR. Moss had 1 good season. And if your giving me the choice of Holmes and Braylon or Coles and Moss Im taking Schotty's guys everytime.

And as great as Martin was lets not act like Thomas Jones and LT were slouches.

Braylon Edwards was the one who was overrated by jets fans including yourself. The guy pretty much sucked everywhere else except one random year in Cleveland. He played well here but not THAT well. At least never as well as Coles played here or in Washington.

Hackett definitely had more talent to work with.. You are crazy
