you mean the show that is bumping the Stanley Cup Finals to some tiny cable network for games 3 & 4? Imagine the WS, NBA Finals or SB being bumped for America's Got Talent:D

I didn't really argue, it's you guys getting pissy b/c of the inferiority complex of the hockey fan.

espn is a basketball website? who knew? we should conduct polls of 40 people on various BS forums to get a more scientific read.

The SB never would, but I could see the WS or NBA finals getting bumped for something pathetic like that too

Interrupting the season and losing games hurts the sport. You don't think a bad commissioner plays a part in all these stoppages? And the 1999 lockout finals ratings dropped massively from the mid 90s pre lockout average even though it included a NY team in the NBA finals. Lockouts hurt, you lose games and lose interest.

No it does not translate fine to TV. It's much easier to follow a basketball than a puck live in a game. That's why the glow puck was tested out and got mixed reviews, people complained it was hard to follow the puck. If for whatever reason you are streaming the game, it becomes a hassle if the quality is bad. HD TV and larger TV screens help massively. Also, replay factor. You can't get immediate replays of a missed shot (if you can watch it live) or if a goalie or defender saved it, or if it was deflected or what not. It doesn't translate fine to TV. It takes a bit more work and creativity because of the lack of stoppages in the sport compared to the other big 3.

Those above and ESPN are some reasons it suffers on TV. I'm sure there's other bigger hockey fans know about or TV experts know about, but those are the ones that stand out to me. Oh and I guess TV timeouts too. Much more common for NHL games to miss TV timeouts while I think the NBA rarely misses them and NFL never misses them. MLB doesn't have them officially.

this is entertaining because junc just has to have the last word and can't give it up.. at least until his work day is over anyway.

    not a chance.

the 99 ratings went down b/c MICHAEL JORDAN wasn't playing anymore. it included a NY team but also a team from SA.

Yes, a bad commish hurts but it wasn't like the NHL was thriving pre-Bettman.

I am a casual fan, I can follow the puck just fine. play stops frequently enough where you can get replays pretty quickly.

ESPN had a hockey deal, they didn't fight to keep it b/c they didn't get ratings.

this is a discussion board, right? I love folks that I routinely make look like fools that complain that I dare to argue on the board as if I should shut up the moment they make an asinine point to make them feel good about themselves.

Live more watch the NHL than the NBA

Average attendance per game NBA 2011-2012 season 17,274
Average attendance per game NHL 2011-2012 season 17,455, 2012-2013 season was higher at 17,721 per game but NBA didn't have totals that I could find yet so went back a year

there's nothing to prove it one way or the other which is something you don't seem to grasp. even if a poll says 99% prefer hockey it's all just opinions.

Yes, attendance at a game would be what watching in person means. The NHL has a higher average watching each game and also sells out a higher percentage of games than the NBA.

    Which part don't you understand?

I find it amusing you call espn a "basketball website" and post #s from a hockey blog called puck daddy.

either way the #s are close and basketball ticket prices are higher across the board. think that may impact the miniscule difference?
