Vick isn't really that good in his opinion.

Look, if your definition of a good QB is a guy who goes 5-11 over the last two seasons with below average stats while his team goes 9-7 with somebody else QBing them then I can't argue with that. It's a strange definition of a good QB but you're entitled to have strange opinions.

Yep. Whatever Michael Vick was at one point in his career he clearly is not a good QB at this point. If he beats out Geno then the odds are excellent we're in the QB market next season assuming the Jets don't really like what they see out of Boyd in the interim.

I think you're under rating Vick. He was good last season until he got hurt. Him beating out Geno doesn't mean Geno can't ever be a franchise QB. Keep in mind Vick demolished Foles in their QB competition last year.

I have not said I am counting on it,in fact I believe I have stated that I think either vick or geno will give us good enough qb play to compete for a p.o. spot. Where I disagree is the peception that is more likely geno busts than becomes an average qb. He was trending up at the end of year and seemed to have recovered from an awful slump.it's encouraging that he did not go into the tank mid season. geno has shown reason for hope. I know jet fans struggle with that but its there
As far as trading for foles, I have a hard time criticizing teams for moves they don't make. We don't know what if any talks were had both internally or with other teams.so discrediting them for something that may or may not have been possible seems a bit useless.

So you are comparing Foles with Smith. Got it. Vick not doing as well as Foles did does not make Smith better than Vick, since Foles is far better than Smith and you know it.

You leave out an assessment of the difference for the Eagles between 12 and 13. that difference explains the difference in team record, which as you well know is at best a rough fit as a metric for individual performance.

And you did not address your use of misleading stats.

At this point i must acknowledge we will not get a reasonable argument out of you for some reason.

Again, I don't think Vick is a great Qb by any means. His running and the increased ratio of time injured has always been problematic. Although it has gotten better. I think too many overrated his game when he was in Atlanta. But I also think he got better when he went to Philly, and the main point is he is better than Smith.

Geno doesn't need to be better than Vick. He needs to prove that he can play the QB position at a consistent level. If they both have good camps and they both play well in preseason they'll go with Geno.

Is Vick better than Geno? Yes. But in the big picture that's truly irrelevant.

I'm agreeing with Blocker. I think I'm turning to the dark side :)

Well, if it makes you feel any better, odds are we wont agree about everything. Heh.

And in all seriousness I don't consider myself a darksider. It has been a rough several years, first with Herm, and Chad's health problems, then trading up for Sanchez, the Tebow thing. Hopefully things will get better soon.

I doubt he meant really without relevance. He did say in the context of the Big Picture. I can see the argument that Smith should start if Vick is only marginally better. the Big Picture 1985 refers to is that Smith's prospects in the medium to long term would then outweigh a slight benefit to playing Vick in the short term. I just don't see that happening since Vick is likely to be enough better that he will win the job.

If Geno is good in his own right and we're winning games with Geno. Vick being "better" doesn't matter therefore it's irrelevant.

Vick did pretty much hint that it isn't a true QB competition, which is weird

Vick was brought in to push Geno. He knows Geno is the starter and he knows he'll start if Geno shows in camp and preseason that he isn't ready.
