for me I can only really watch teams that I don't care about in football but I flip around during MLB and NBA, I can't watch a hockey game that I have zero interest in. I am not a Ranger fan but I have a personal and professional interest and even these games I can't watch for more than a few mins at a time.

But you never have the option of seeing the entire field at once while it's on TV because they all zoom in. Its nice to have the multiple angles and replays, but it's also nice to observe match ups between players that don't see much TV time. In NBA, NFL and MLB you see every match up at all times pretty much. I find there is way more to take out of live NFL, from a pure analytic perspective at least. Weather, girls, grass, etc all take a back seat to the action on field to me, although sometimes it can depend where your seats are. I see plenty of hot woman on a daily basis in the summer.

Might be a little off topic, but anyone flying out to Brazil? I am flying out end of June. World Cup is too much fun. Even if you have to go watch the lesser talented teams play.

Be safe. I'm sure it would be fun, but the cost and the safety concerns would scare me off.

Holding big events like the Olympics and World Cup in Rio is a recipe for disaster.

that is what hockey fans tell them selves to make themselves feel better since it's not nearly as popular as the other sports. I like hockey but I can't sit through a game, playoffs or reg season, that I have no interest in. I will watch the Olympics, I will watch the isles and Rangers but that is it and even those games I can't sit through an entire game.

The best postseason on the planet is easily the NCAA Men's basketball Tournament, there is not a close 2nd.

I disagree. I don't particularly care for either hockey or basketball as a spectator sport, but playoff hockey is a billion times more exciting than playoff basketball. How anyone pays any attention to those sports during the regular season is completely beyond me.

I'll take a good basketball game over a good hockey game any day and clearly I'm not alone as the ratings will tell you. That is not a knock on hockey, I like hockey I just don't love it.

The NBA is not what it used to be, I don't love the NBA anymore either but I will take it over hockey.

I'm with you on that. I know goal tending is a huge part of it, and most hockey fans will disagree but I feel like there should be more scoring. It would make the games more enjoyable, although I can see how scoring being a rarity makes it more meaningful and makes the goalies very valuable.

College hockey is a lot of fun to watch in my experiences. Although losing to BC all the time gets frustrating

I have seen NBA, NHL, NFL and MLB games in person. I voted for MLB. Depending on your seat, NHL and NFL games can be awful in person. On the other hand, they can be great.

There is no need to see a NBA game in person because you can see everything you need to see on television due to the small size of the playing area compared to the other three sports.

No matter where I have sat in baseball stadiums, I saw what I needed to see and I like the more laidback atmosphere of a baseball game compared to the other three.

Not Brazil, but I will be in a soccer-loving country from June 21 to July 3. Is this when the World Cup will be going on?

I've always had the most fun at live NHL games. It was my first love and best sport, and even though I don't follow NHL anymore, it still gives me the biggest rush to see live.

Follow that with NFL, NBA and MLB in that order.

agreed 100% It's the pro sport I follow least these days, but it still has the greatest entertainment differential than seeing it on TV. If anyone has the opprtunity to see a playoff game live. Go.

Your argument that tv ratings tell some kind of story are completely irrelevant.

I'd be interested to hear what you think afterwards. I have the opportunity to attend a conference in Rio next summer, but the stories about the discontent related to the World Cup and Olympics definitely have me concerned (and then add in the high crime level in Brazil in general and in Rio in particular).
