Been checking out vid clips/stats of safety Pryor & this kid is nice! Curious to know your opinions on who to keep my eye on & why?
Yes, I'd say Pryor, Amaro and Saunders. Pryor is going to be a beast, Amaro is actually underrated, about two months ago, I was thinking the Jets might pick him up at 18 and would've been fine with it. Faster on the field than running a 40, very good route runner and good blocking potential. Saunders is also underrated - most polished receiver we took imo, very good route runner, will also help on special teams. Write your reply...
Pryor. He's gonna make some momentum shifting hits. Reminds me of Laron Landry (under Rex). That super fast pursuit to the ball carrier to lay the monster hit. As far as coverage he's also a ball hawk. Should one day be one of the better safties in the NFL.
I'm looking forward to see McDougle battle it out for CB2. If he is fully healthy, I believe he can have immediate impact at the position.
Pryor could really become something special on this defense under Rex Ryan. Amaro wasn't my first choice for offensive weapon in the draft but he wasn't far down the list at all and some of the concerns that brought down his draft stock i.e. how effective he would be as an in line TE or whether he's fast enough to be the same type of mismatch at the next level could easily turn out to be unsubstantiated fears. You look with a skeptical eye before making a major investment but after locking it up there's always a chance the question marks were overblown and you wind up with more than you bargained for. I would've preferred Ebron as a player, (though I don't think his extra value is even close to the difference between the 10th and 49th pick) but if his inconsistent hands don't improve Amaro could wind up being the better player. I would've preferred ASJ but he did disappear for his last year and there are some injury concerns which could lead to Amaro being the better player. Meanwhile Amaro had by far the most productive season of any of them, who knows maybe that's the way it'll always be from here on out. I think all three of them look like superior prospects than Eifert did last year coming out, and he did fine his rookie season, 50+ catches from Amaro wouldn't surprise me at all. Guess my point is that both of the top two picks seem to be exactly what was needed to turn around their positional units on the team, maybe you could've been more enamored with Jordan Matthews or ASJ or whoever else hoping they fell to 49, but it's hard to be anything less than thrilled with who Idzik ended up selecting. Might've been more aggressive to trade up at some point after the 2nd pick but he didn't and a lot of depth was added at every position with 12 selections. Have to view Pryor and Amaro as the key contributors, and any additional useful starters from the later picks would be icing on the cake. I expect there will be at least one good player out of those last 10 picks, probably even two or three. Just might take a while longer for them to produce on the field than the polished blue chip selections.
I think you're looking at two starters - Amaro and Pryor. I would expect Amaro to have huge numbers in Marty's offense.
I think we'll see a bigger impact from the bottom half of the draft, then we see from the top. Not that the top of our draft was weak, but our bench players were not good. Replacing many of them will benefit the O D and ST.
Pryor has best shot right out the gate because of the glaring void in the secondary. However Amaro is right behind him as an impact rookie because big, rangy TE's are a QB's best friend.
I'm between the first two picks. I tink Pryor is going to have some big hits and impact the middle of the field where we have had issues, but Amaro is going to instantly produce, especially as a big red zone threat. Since WRs take longer to develop than TEs generally and we will probably depend more on our TE for offensive production than most, we could be looking at both the DROY and OROY. Wouldn't that be sweet.
Calvin Pryor will make an impact right away. When's the last time a Jets player drafted Rounds 4-7 made a serious impact on this team?
Pryor with our defense has a better chance to shine then Amaro or any of the WR's do with our offense. Now if Geno (or Vick) come in and start and turn us into a top 10 offense then it could be a different story.
Brandon Cooks whom we should have drafted. Fucking stupid to get more defense in the first round. Amaro will have the biggest impact.
I'm thinking Amaro's gonna be that guy. He could help turn this offense into legitimate threat. McDougle is a close 2nd, since many say he's a reach and should be a 6th rounder and all this other smack. He needs to step up and prove the doubters wrong. He just might shine the brightest. Pryor will be solid and that's pretty much expected.
The safe bet is Pryor, by a long shot. I've got a strange feeling about Boyd being better than anticipated, but how good is an open question. And I think we'll likely get to see him start, at least in preseason .
