I guess we'll find out. I was really hoping the jets would take massive mauler Gabe Jackson in round 3, The guy is a beast. Oakland took him the very next pick after we reached for McDougle.

McDougle is definitely a little small, but he hasn't exactly been able to work on bulking up with that severe shoulder injury. Lets see what he looks like in the middle of training camp.

You can't define reach until the player plays a game or two or 16...

All this bunk he could have been had in the 6th round is just rubbish. Fact is who really knows where he would have gone.

McDougle was the only player to work out at Maryland's Pro Day and 24 teams showed up so essentially they were there to see him. With that many teams coming to see one guy you are bound to get various grades across the board from teams in a range from say the 2nd to the 6th on team draft boards. Who knows where and how high those other teams had him rated. Jets were obviously one of the teams that rated him higher and they probably had an inkling that some other clubs had a decent grade on him as well so they pulled the trigger. Doesn't mean they will be right but that's why the draft is a crapshoot. People get too hung up on value. Name of the game is to find talent that fits your schemes no matter what round.

Excellent post. I've been watching some film since the pick. Initially I felt like it was a huge reach, but he definitely is a ballhawk and tomdeb's post explains the pick a bit. If he stays healthy I do think he'll be good player for us and that's all I want from a third round pick. If Rex & co. pulled the trigger on this guy, I gotta trust them. People will badmouth the Kyle Wilson pick to shit on Rex, but he was a 29th overall - almost 2nd round - and he's one of the best slot corners in the league now so that's fine with me. plus he had his own bus during the draft. have you ever had your own bus?

I'm really beginning to liek this kid.
The first link from the baltimore Sun off his pro day was really impressive.
He came across mature, intelligent, dedicated and loving football.
This is the type of guy you want on your team.

Hopefully the injury bug is behind him.

Thanks for the links. According to testudotimes.com, it appears McDougle started his college ball days at Safety and I'm wondering how much that position flexibility added to his draft value. Maybe the Miama FA CB starts alongside Millner & they experiment with McDougle playing centerfield occasionally while dropping Pryor in the box?

Just like most posters here, I was not familiar with him beforehand. However, Rex knows CB. He oversaw the development of Revis and Cro was an elite CB for 1-2 seasons under Rex. Kyle Wilson has also turned into a solid, productive CB#3. Going into that pick I was thinking McGill (the Utah CB) was a solid choice. Obviously Jets brain trust believes McDougle>McGill. I'll hit the Maryland blogs and hopefully learn more.

For anyone saying he was a reach, Kansas City was going to take him if we didn't they took Philip Gaines instead

That is pretty interesting stuff. The pick definitely wasn't my favourite but most of that stems from him being so unknown an these projections of him being there later. I still think we could have got him at the start of the 4th or trading up into the bottom of the third or something which would have allowed us to get a better WR prospect and possibly him.

That being said, this does lend some strength to the argument that he may not have been available later.

What's a more reliable source, twitter or Wikipedia?

    They both seem pretty legit.

I usually go there for surgery tips too.

Did somebody from the Chiefs say this?

Maybe you should qualify your post with something more specific than " on Twitter". For all we know it was the Iron Sheik that tweeted it.
