Sterling is known as a guy who will cut his nose to spite his face. At this point it would be wise financially for him to sell the team. Not sure if the league would allow him to transfer it to one of his family. They probably want to completely divest themselves from any ties to him or his family. But if Sterling (who is a lawyer and is generally good at lawsuits) could score even more $ going to court (or in a settlement with the league) he'll most likely do it. He might not be liable for his comments because they weren't spoken publicly. It was taped and then given to the media without his permission or knowledge. The league bylaws contain clauses that protect the NBA from behavior, etc. detrimental to the league. But in this case he didn't say or do anything in public. It was a private conversation. It could be a big case and maybe even go to the Supreme Court if he wants it to.
