Has anyone here said that we were getting the Chris Johnson of 3 years ago? I havent seen it.

Every opinion Ive seen has been realistic. Only so much can be asked of a back thats gonna see about 10 touches a game.

In 2012, CJ averaged 4.5 yards per carry. In 2013, it dropped to a career low of 3.9 per carry, and averaged about 11 fewer yards per game. I don't really understand how 2013 was a better season for him when his y/c dropped by 0.6.

I also disagree with you when you say his 2012 output of 4.5 yards per carry was a "trainwreck" kind of performance. 4.5 is solid.

But more believable perhaps than the lack of knowledge about the Titans offensive line.

Alright I'm going to keep going because this is too much fun.

In 2012 Johnson had an 80 yard run against the Bears backups down 51-13 in the 4th. You think that helped his average at all? Like I said, you need to watch the games. In that game he had 16 carries for 141 yards and a TD. Take away the meaningless 80 yard TD when down by 38 points in the 4th against backups and he would have had 15 carries for 61 yards. He also had a 7 yard run with 3:15 to go in the game down by 31. You know what else he did that day? He lost two fumbles. So if you looked on the surface you'd say wow Johnson had a great game. 16 carries 141 yards, a TD and an 80 yard run. But if you actually look deeply into it you'd realize what a bad day he actually had. That was his 2012 season in a nutshell.

I have probably said 10 times that I am well aware of what Johnson is expected to do in NY (be a part-time player and a complement to Chris Ivory). And I don't think he's the right guy to do that. He MAY have 3 big plays a season. That's really what you're playing him for. His 3 big plays. And, like in the Bears game example, they may very well come in a meaningless situation. But he's a liability when he's not breaking big plays. I'd also be afraid of him losing focus and not doing what the staff asks him to do and instead trying to break the HR every play. The Jets should have gone after Darren Sproles or Dexter McCluster. Both guys are better at what they're expecting Johnson to do and better overall football players.

Someone posted a highlight of his TD run against the Dolphins in 2012. You know what the normal outcome is when Johnson tries to cut back like that? A 2 yard loss.

How Chris Johnson is viewed around the league by fans that don't watch him aside from the occasional big play highlight and how Chris Johnson is viewed by Titans fans that see him on a weekly basis is almost a complete 180.

As far as the Santonio Holmes comment we had a discussion on him. Most Titans fans were against signing him because of his diva attitude and his apparent lack of focus at times.

And I do understand Jets fans. I listen to WFAN all the time. This site is definitely not representative of Jets fans, at least as far as this thread is concerned.

You really would think judging by the reaction that the Jets just signed Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers.

I wish you happiness, Titans fan. You seem unhappy, trying to rain on our parade. Good luck to you.

i usually don't feed the trolls but i feel the need to jump in here.

to your first point, if you take away the 80 yard run he is still averaging 4 ypc against the bears. not bad.
to the bolded, he is going to be asked to hit hr's so losing focus is not going to be a problem.
i don't understand why you feel the need to repeatedly say the same stuff over and over when very little applies to what he is coming here to do.

Of course it applies. Because the % of actual big plays from Johnson is so low to begin with that if you start giving him the ball 8-12 times a game with a few passes thrown you're likely to see very little from him.

He is not Darren Sproles. That's what I don't think Jets fans understand. They're expecting a classic 3rd down back that can be lethal out of the backfield. And that's not Chris Johnson's game.

And in that Bears game he fumbled twice. He was brutal that day. But you'd never know it if you didn't watch the game and looked just at the #'s.

Not at all. I came in here to give my opinion on Johnson from the other side.

If the reaction on this board didn't seem like the Jets had signed Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers I wouldn't have even registered.

Apparently you're not up to speed on last seasons Jets offense... Archie Manning and Mr. Rodgers would have been an upgrade. :)

I think everyone knows what we'll be getting with CJ, he's not expected to be the guy who pushes us over the top. Just a guy who may help win a few games.

i haven't seen 1 poster calling this the end all be all of signings. everyone has said its a good fit, marty will get him the ball in space and give him chances to make big plays. thank you for your concern over the signing, your warning have been heard. now if you have nothing else to add you can go.
    bye

Ok... We got your opinion. We might not value it but we've heard it.

I guess that means your job here is done so you can leave now.

That still wouldn't stop certain Jets fans from thinking that he sucks.

yea I'd rather have sproles but that woulda cost draft pucks and yes I agree with a large portion of your cj analysis but to say dexter mccluster would've been better is fucking retarded. the real difference is that in ten you were giving him the main workload, watching him dance around waiting for that home run. here he's going to be looking for that hone run when the defence has already been worn out by ivory pounding it against them all day. huge difference homie

I mean, this Titan fan hasn't exactly supported his accusations but what he's saying isn't ridiculous. A lot of people see him as washed up, and to think Johnson is more than a marginal compliment to our offense might be a bit overzealous of us. I hope Johnson goes out there and proves everyone wrong, but if he doesn't, I won't be surprised at all. You guys having an aneurism over his opinion makes us look like douchebags, so why don't you all just try and calm down?

Regardless, I hope we get a few nice plays out of him this season, enough to perhaps help us win a game or two.

He is more than a marginal complement or the stingiest GM in football wouldn't have given him a 4 million dollar/yr deal.

You mean they EXPECT him to be more than a marginal compliment. That doesn't mean he's going to be.

Let me just say i wholly support the signing. I think for four mil, even an average output is okay. That's not much money in terms of our cap, and for two years it's worth the cap risk. I just think that to attack this guy for stating an opinion that isn't out of the realm of possibility is silly.

Most Jets fans on the board seem to have very realistic expectations. Nobody is predicting 2000 yards. We all seem to agree he is on the decline, but still can be very effective as a 1-2 punch with Ivory. He also provides us with big play potential catching the ball out of the backfield.

Nyjunc was spot on IMO, when he said it's out best RB combo since McNeil/Hector. I'm happy with the signing.
