While CJ played with a torn meniscus. I'm not saying I'm def going to be right, but IMO CJ will be the RB1 and Ivory the RB2. Even so, there won't be much discrepancy in the amount of touches so my point is probably moot.
Personally 50 more rushing yards and barely 200 more receiving yards than what Powell gave us last year isn't worth isn't worth 3.5 million more than what we are paying Powell. If that's all he produces no way 5 million is worth it.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 48s Chris Johnson's arrival likely will end Mike Goodson's bizarre 1-year stint with Jets before the start of the 2014 season. #nyj
i like Powell too. but several hundred more receiving yds out of the backfield is a huge addition, especially when teams know he can take it to the house on any catch. he can also take it long on any rush. they have to account for that. i think it would be well worth 4.5M, and have a feeling we got it for even less.
Let them compete in camp, but it seems pretty clear to me that Ivory is going to get the majority of touches in the earlier part of games, and then CJ will get more touches when the opposing defense is tired out, making weaker tackles, and taking lazier angles. It seems pretty logical to me.
The several hundred more receiving yards you are referring to would be about 175. Assuming he posts the 450 you were talking about. What you projected CJ to offer us is a super duper 225 more yards than Powell gave us in 2013. That is not worth a $3.5 million dollar difference in salary.
That could also work in the exact opposite scenario with CJ running around the defense, tiring them out, then bring in Ivory to crush some souls while guys try to make arm tackles. Regardless, it doesn't matter, I expect the carries to be split almost 50/50, so they'll probably get a similar # of carries.
You mistake me, I wanted CJ to get signed. I also expect more production than what queens stated, but I doubt we paid him the 2 years 10 mil queens wanted us to either.
so let me get this straight. you went from 'i'd be flabbergasted' to see CJ get a lofty 1200 combined yds... now you are saying, eh Powell got 900 combined yds, so 1200 combined isn't that big a deal? i think posting 1200 combined yds will be a very big deal for this offense, especially when the guy doing it is someone opposing defenses have to game plan to contain. that will only open things up for everyone else. and btw, Powell makes 1.5M. I was suggesting 4.5M or less for Johnson, and i believe we probably just landed him for less. so it's not a 3.5M difference in salary..
haha, gotta call bullshit. you flat out said you'd be flabbergasted if Johnson put up 1200 combined yds. now you are saying you expect more than that? and i never said 2 years 10M, i wanted 2 years 8M, but going up to 9M seemed reasonable. never 10M.
