The pollution of other threads is getting boring. How about this? If Idzik is a worthwhile scout and GM then we can look forward to future seasons of success. If Idzik is just the "cap guy" then at least he's fixing the fucking cap. We should be well placed to sign high value players when we can evaluate the roster after the draft. We aren't in VLT challenging shape this season. Are there really Jet fans who think this guy is a fraud already after less than 12 months? Get it done Tanny
No GM should only be given one year to prove his worth. 1. He came into a shitty situation with a Superstar player that he had to deal with. It sucks that Revis ended up in New England this year, but I'd still say we won that trade. 2. He came into a shitty cap situation, he's in the process of cleaning that up, despite the fans being all over him for it. 3. He had to nail the draft. I really like what he did last year, but the jury is still out. It could either be awful, awesome or somewhere in between. So my opinion is that we have to let him see his plan through to the end. One year is much too soon to call for a GM's head.
Idzik isn't a "Scout" he was hired to fix the cap and he did just that.We have this little thing called a "scouting department" .John Idzik is a human calculator.I don't think he's a " fraud" I just don't think he is the " holy grail" of Gms Idzik fans have claimed him to be
I've read everything there is to know about Idzik, what's your point?am I missing book 3 of the trilogy?
No, you're missing the fact that he is far more than a human calculator. But it looks like plenty have tried to explain this to you already, I'm not going to waste my time on it. You clearly either don't comprehend well or you just don't want your opinion to be wrong.
He got a degree in Mathmatics at Dartmouth ,That's impressive to me,he is a human calculator. We had the worst cap in the league he was brought in to fix it,and he did.And he wasn't our top candidate to be GM either he was willing to keep Rex around so we hired him
Why are you refusing to acknowledge the fact that he was a member of three front offices and had personnel input in all of them? Two of them went on to win Superbowls.
Omg your giving Idzik credit for the two Superbowl wins?this is why I argue with all the Idzik lovers ,what about the other 75 front office guys that worked for those teams where's there credit?
Personally, I never saw our cap as 'broken'. With Tanny we always maxed it out, but he was always able to clear space each year to get us what we needed. I don't recall not being able sign a free agent for cap reasons. Granted, Tanny made some bad decisions extending some contracts namingly Santonio and Sancho but in general I though he managed the cap pretty well. Idzik clearly wants to get young and build it from the draft. It takes time to do this. I am ok with giving him the time to do it. There is wisdom in this type of approach. In the end he will spend $$ but he is going to want to spend it on our guys instead of FAs. It is a smart approach. When you bring someone in from the draft they are inexpensive and you have 4+ years to evaluate them and mold them to your system. Extending/paying a guy you are intimately familiar with is probably the lowest risk/highest reward proposition in the NFL. Bringing in high priced FA is much riskier. Just because they preformed at a high level in a certain system under a certain coach doesn't mean they will translate to your team/system. Therefore I am willing to give Idzik time. This draft will be big for him. He can't just hit on the early guys, he needs to bring us value in the later rounds as well. We will know in 3/4 years.
Come on chief... do your homework... "Idzik has spent the past six seasons as the vice president of football administration with the Seattle Seahawks. There he was actively involved in player evaluations and player negotiations among other responsibilities. Prior to joining the Seahawks, Idzik spent three seasons as senior director of football operations for the Arizona Cardinals, helping to build an NFC championship team. Idzik entered the NFL in 1993 with Tampa Bay and spent 11 years with the Buccaneers, eventually rising to assistant general manager in 2001."
It's A futile effort bud. Give it up. I've gotten cell phone elbow from this stuff lol. Clearly there are many front office faces (i would lean closer to 30 than 75). Ppl think Idzik had a role in those super bowls. Just let them be in bliss. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Yeah but I posted an article (from Seattle) that totally says he was strictly a cap guy during his time in Seattle. Don't act like these quotes are the end all, be all. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
That article specifically stated he was primarily responsible for the cap from the 2010 season through the 2012 season. He worked for the Seahawks since 2004 and 2 other teams since 1991. Also, this. https://twitter.com/BrianCoz/statuses/453898666030694400
I think John's doing a great job so far. I'd have liked for him to spend a little more money, but we'll see how it plays out.
He said member of 3 front offices and everyone in the organization should take some credit when the team wins a Super Bowl. Their position in the organization would determine how much credit. You have a problem with taking what someone posts and then completely twisting it to something that was never said. No one said Idzik was the only one responsible for the Super Bowl wins nor did they say he is the best player evaluator ever, he was involved in evaluating players though and this is something you keep claiming as untrue. Multiple GMs have been quoted saying Idzik does in fact have scouting experience, one went on to say he has a unique eye for evaluating talent but you and a few other keep with the "Idzik is a capologist" mantra.
Well said. Those arguing on the polar extremes ("Idzik is God" v. "Idzik sucks") are arguing from a position of ignorance.
