Even if he did lose a step... Guys with speed like that are still fast then most. Instead of running a 4.2 he runs a 4.4.

the last three years? he didn't look like he lost a step in 2012 ... and if that's what he looks like with a torn meniscus then sign me up

we don't need the special, all world version of cj, anyway. we need a durable, proven back with pass catching ability ... cj/ivory will command the respect of defenses and that will help geno see more favorable coverages

His success as a back is based entirely on that speed that he's losing. Maybe he's productive in 2014, but if the Jets get locked into a contract with Johnson for 3-4 years they are basically signing up for the worst years of his career. We have 12 draft picks in a really deep draft where there are likely to be a few diamonds at RB in the mid rounds. I don't get why we're looking to get old in one of the easiest to fill and cheapest positions on the field for a guy who may be productive for 2 years at most.

Imo Johnson might prove to be a marginal upgrade over Powell, who is serviceable, but too many overrate him among Jet fans. I am a big Ivory fan, but his durability concerns me. That's why the Jets should get Johnson, but he's not the top back he used to be.

I don't think the Jets will sign him to a 3-4 years deal. I think it will be 1-2 years. If he wants 3+ then I agree with you and we should move on.

no, we will absolutely give him 3-4 years. we will have it structured so we can get out of it in 2 years. win win for both sides.

I'm repeating myself but CJ was top 25 in all purpose yards in the NFL the last three years. Maybe he's lost a step but he's still faster than a lot of guys in the NFL and has still been very productive. Powell was our highest ranked all purpose yards player last year at 70th in the league as a point of reference.

Yea - he's on the downside, but I'll take it for a couple years.

I think he gets a 3 year deal tops,The two headed monster of Ivory and CJ could give us the num 1 running game in the league. And CJ would be even better because he splits more reps with Ivory and stays fresher

there is zero reason why we wouldnt. its what every team does, including us, on just about every deal.

with the way the cba is structured, it makes no sense to not put the years in there, backload the deal, and cut him. this way he gets the deal he wants in theory, and we have an exit strategy when the tank hits E and its time to move on.

if you look at the cba, you can see that it gives every team the ability to sign any player to what essentially is a 1-2 year deal, and decide at that point whether to continue with said contract or rip it up and start fresh. start fresh can either mean reworking the deal so the player stays and the team benefits, or cutting the player so he can find a new home and we can replace him for whatever reason, be it performance or behavioral or what have you. so even if the deal is 3-4 years for CJ, in reality, its just for show.

  12. Chris Johnson would fill a very vital role that seems to be getting overlooked. MM's offense is at its best when he has a pass catching RB that can make plays in space as well as pick up blitzes. Additionally, it would make sense to have a speedy big play to compliment Ivory for both depth & strategic purposes. We thought that player was Goodson..and it still very well maybe..but thus far he hasn't been a player the Jets can count on to stay healthy as well as out of trouble.

While Johnson may not be the 2000 yard rusher or every down player he used to be...he still has a very good skill set that includes significant big play ability. That can't be discounted for a team in desperate need of game breakers.

As for searching for alternatives in the draft..Yeah there is some good RB depth in this class..but mostly power/between the tackle types.Dri Archer, Deanthony Thomas & Ka'deem Carey(Maybe.I've seen him drop a few) are really the only options. This tends to be a role that is difficult to project among college RBs b/c they typically aren't asked to run many routes, catch the ball or pass block that often. Jets have alot of picks so maybe the take a shot on one of them..even so..are they gonna be ready to contribute year 1?

This is a very young football team about to get even younger w/ up to 12 new rookies. I don't see an issue in bringing in a proven veteran at a crucial spot where short term team friendly contracts have become the norm. Especially a team as desperate for offensive talent as the Jets.

This is remarkably close to how I pictured your last 6 months playing out.

Your memory used to be sharper. Hope the Illuminati didn't invade your lair to perform major experiments on you in the interim. Anyways, welcome back.

Take it for what it's worth but iBob doesnt even list the Jets as a a team interested in CJ.

And I know how much this board hates him, but so far this offseason, when Bob has said the Jets are out, a short time later, it's news that they are.

Like I said take it for what it's worth, but this one might be over too. Tre Mason?

I still vote for mentioning iBob leading to a permanent ban.
