I hear stuff like we want to "run the ball" and then I see people say that Ivory (hasn't made it through half a season without injury, let alone a full one as a workhorse) and Powell (Solid player, really really solid, does everything decently. Average talent at best) are good enough? Get a real game-breaker and get him behind this line and in the passing game and you will see some home runs. Plus big plays in this market = $$.
Johnson had a decent year last year. If you combine his rushing and receiving he had 1422 yards and 10 tds. I wouldn't mind getting him, but there is a lot of tread on those tires when you take into account how many catches and carries he's had in his career.

Meh. If Holmes was perceived to be the locker room cancer you described him as, his contract should not have been a barrier to getting rid of him. Holmes is gone now at least partly because his ability to return to good health is questionable. That was not the case before 12. And of course Idzik was in lockstep on Revis! But that's a different subject. I still don't get what I take it must be seen as a lesser consideration by others. If Holmes was such a problem inside the team, why would the Jets wheel him out in post game pressers? That makes no sense to me. Anyway, Holmes is gone. I just am suspicious of putting blame for 11 on him when it more obviously should go on Sanchez and also Hunter, Burress being inconsistent, Greene not doing much, those sorts of things. I would also add as a major factor that when Leonhard went down in the Chiefs game, no one else stepped up to replace him. Opponents attacking Poole and Smith down the stretch was a major bad memory from that season.

Too many Jet fans have gotten used to mediocrity. After Greene, Ivory and Powell look good. I do like Ivory, but I know that's because he's an improvement over Greene. But it's not like Ivory and Powell are anywhere near a top tandem in the league.

Yes, but Johnson is still at this point in his career better than anyone on that list, probably by a lot and he will get more than any of them too. At least 4M a year, maybe 4.5M.
Idzik will do his usual. Surely he has a plan with regard to this player. It was no secret that he was getting released. He has a $ figure in mind and will offer it to Johnson's agent. Other teams may offer more but CJ is a luxury. Idzik will not overpay.
Ivory and Powell played well last year. We were 6th in rushing so I'd love if our run game was "mediocre" like that if it meant having a consistent top 10 rushing offense.
I agree, I think 4M is probably the floor and I wouldn't be surprised if some team overpays for him. If Trader Mike was still here, I'd be expecting us to overpay for him.
