Wish the Titans would just cut CJ already. No one's giving up a draft pick for him!

if vick has a great year----he will walk next year as idzik signed him for only one year----and next year we will be in the same shaky qb situation-----geno ng
no vick only qb is matt simms-----I would suppose jets will make a move on one of the many qb in the draft----prob the third round

You're right, he is probably just plain stupid. You don't completely decimate your secondary (both safeties and both CBs) over your first two years without having a plan in place to make it better...he did and he don't.

Vick isn''t the long term solution at QB for the Jets. even if he has a great year the Jets shouldn't be too worried about losing him; how may great years do you think he has left?

Favre had the best year of his career with the Vikings, but followed that up with one of his worst because ultimately he was on borrowed time as a player. Vick is a short term solution meant to either help better Geno Smith or be an immediate stop gap in case Smith continues to struggle so the team has a legitimate chance to win this season. If Geno struggles this year and we need to play Vick, who excels, the Jets know to give up on Geno and look again for the long term solution at QB next year, which isn't Vick. so whether Vick is great or not is irrelevant, ultimately, because the Jets have to shift focus to the long term QB situation next year anyways if Geno isn't the answer.

Mettenger is looking like a nice mid round QB to groom for the post-vick era

I certainly understand why you want to use Favre as an analogy, but Favre turned 38 the season he went to the Vikes. Vick will be four years younger than that on opening day.

I have my own concerns about Vick's longevity, but in his case it is more about his record of injuries than exclusively his age. Yes, you could make the argument, as you may intend, that in effect Vick's injuries put his longevity prospects roughly where Favre's were when he went to Minny. You may be right. But four years, going from mid to late thirties, is a long time when it comes to NFL players.

Another point is that the one year contract for Vick in itself makes him a problematic issue for even the medium term, let alone the long term. It is possible the Jets might retain him for 2015 and beyond. But wanting him to would be based on him having a very good year this year, and then he could go elsewhere. That is as much a factor in seeing him as a questionable even medium term solution for the Jets as his age or health. (mabye I should say age and health.)

One has to wonder whether the issue of perhaps non-guaranteed years, or smaller guaranteed amounts, in additional years in Vick's contract came up. You would think the Jets would have at least raised the subject, one would hope. Yet I wonder if they did.

My main comment, however, regards the part I bolded. Again I understand your point, but there may be a third scenario. Maybe they simply felt Vick was an upgrade at Qb (as he is) and made the move on that basis, leaving the chips to fall where they may about Smith's future, which after all is not the main thing here. The main thing is having a successful team.

I absolutely agree. I just don't think we, as fans, or even the Jets organization, should be too worried about Vick walking after the year even if he has a great season. despite being younger than Favre in my example, his durability likely has his career clock ticking just as fast as Favre's when Favre was five years older than Vick is now, so I just don't see any concern in letting Vick walk after the season even if he plays great. it continuing even into the next season would seem to be a huge question mark.

Let's hope Geno beats him out and has a good year giving us hope that we might have a longterm solution at QB.

for as many bone headed mistakes he made last season, there were times when Geno looked like he had all the tools to be elite, and not in the way that even bad QB's look good sometimes.

I think he will. it is also why I'd love to see us get Chris Johnson. likely we are going to go WR in the 1st, so hypothetically that would give us Kerley, Decker and Marquis Lee. If we could get a proven game changing back like Johnson to go along with them (even though I like Ivory and Powell), I think that creates a situation where the defense has to respect the run and pass and will open it up for Geno. it is also why I think Johnson, at maybe $4 or $5 million is a better value than Desean Jackson at $8 million.

I agree with you, I think we'll go WR or TE but either way we should be getting a guy that can make plays. Johnson isn't what he used to be but being apart time back pairing up w/ a bruiser like Ivory our run game can be dynamic which will obviously make life easier for Geno.

I think the Jets go with speed or height when it comes to a WR.

Conspiracy theories make the world go round. If people want to believe in Idzfoot, let them have it. It's a coping mechanism for people who don't understand change.

i think johnson could really help this team, it seemed like he got hit behind the LOS every game with the titans. granted that happened with Ivory, but i could see our offensive line being better next year with Winters getting better

have ivory tire down the defense with his hard hitting mentality and then have johnson use his 4.2 speed to hit the home run. could be deadly
