We currently have 65 players total on the Jets roster and I think that includes practice squad guys I'm not sure, add another 12 that's 80.We have to get down to 53 active by the time preseason ends, that's how

I wasn't gonna respond with anything worth noting since you have already proven you are a moron but let me try something.

You ever do well in math class when you were younger? Answer me this. Which probability is higher in finding starters in a draft: One with 4 picks or one with 12?

If you can answer that question correctly, you have successfully proven how ignorant you are.

So you're assuming based on odds that 5 drafted players get cut. Maybe you should have said that instead of stating it as fact

A bullshit question when you are dealing with a different GM. That question would only be valid if the center of the question, the GM, was labeled as a constant.

    Good attempt though.

We had 12 or more draft picks in every draft from 1969-1991 so all I can do is go off history regardless of the new GMs and out of those 12 how many started or were kept for depth

I don't care what you are doing. The fact is, you can't make that claim with previous different GM's. When one hosts an experiment, there has to be a constant for the experiment to be valid. You learn this in first grade. Your said claim, requires a constant at GM, who is the primary individual picking players. If the GM is different, the claim is false. It's that simple.

Just as many bitch about Idzik, there is no body of evidence to make a logical claim. There needs to be a body of proof to make that statement.

If we draft 12 guys and 7-8 guys get cut I'd say the entire front office will be getting fired. It's a stretch to say more than 2 would get cut.

So since 1969 all the failed GMs that have come and gone what is it that makes you wet about John Idzik and his approach?serious question

Nothing quite yet. I never said he "makes me wet". Every time I make a comment it's more of a joke than anything else about him.

What I do love is that he has cut all the excess garbage to allow us to be way under the cap, that he has signed quality guys in free agency at great contracts, that he has remained calm in spending a fortune and trading away draft picks, and that in his first draft, he took the defensive rookie of the year. So far, in my opinion, he has done a hell of a job, but again, we will see what he does this draft.

What I like about Idzik is that he clearly has not given a crap about what the fans think and you know what, it's worked out well so far.

Do you remember the reaction last year to the Sheldon Richardson pick? That turned out a hell of a lot better than anyone thought it would. And I know I am going to get quotes in this post with someone bringing up the Milliner pick but it actually looks to be on the same level with anyone they would have taken at#9. Idzik has had a plan and stuck to his guns despite the amount of criticism he's faced. I have to respect that especially considering he hasn't made a serious blunder in the draft or free agency so far.

Let's wait until the 2014 draft picks are made and have a year to play before we start labeling Idzik. And I meant to emphasize, let's wait for this upcoming year's picks TO PLAY some football because I have a feeling people are going to say the sky is falling right after this years draft. It's what fans (not just Jets fans) do.

i agree he cut some excess, and allowed us to get way under the cap.
but what has he done once way under the cap? not much of anything.

personally, i think he's banking way too much on this years draft, and the development of Geno (who he hasn't helped all that much yet).
If this draft tanks, we could end up very poor this year as well as next. Rex could be gone, and the clock on Idzik will begin ticking.

I would've preferred leveraging our cap just a bit more, putting quality competition out on the field, while also assisting the development of Smith. We are banking too much on the draftees to become impact players immediately, which rarely happens outside of a pick or two if lucky.
It actually seems more risky an approach to me, then taking a chance on a couple mid range signings with plenty of cap room to spare.

when you're right, youre right! damn good point man. 6 of these picks are from rounds 5-7. It'll be a job well done if there is 1-2 finds. Over/Under for draft picks that will be cut is 3.

The problem with this argument is that you're implying that the FA is over. It isn't. There will be two more waves. One shortly after the draft when teams that drafted BPA will cut excess that was replaced by newly drafted top rookie. The second will be just before season starts when rosters get finalized. Danny Woodhead was picked by NE during that second wave.

I'm anxiously awaiting the rest of FA, as i expect we will HAVE to do something.
We don't have quality competition on our roster yet at a vast number of positions.

So i just don't understand how people can blindly applaud Idzik at this point, and talk about the draft filling in the remaining holes, as if that is acceptable.
That is as laughable to me as the people who are ready to throw dirt on Idzik's GM grave this quickly.
He has to complete FA with some quality competition, but i think he is banking on the draft too much personally. You have to play for the present while also keeping your eye on what we are trying to build for the future. It is not one or the other.

between this offseason and next, I would expect 3 draft picks to be cut from this crop.
hopefully just late picks. If only 2 are cut, and a few become starters by next year, it is a great draft. that's just the nature of drafting.

IMO how Jets will be active in the remainder of the FA will depend on how draft goes and how good they feel about the rookies. And injuries of course. By the law of averages I expect that 1-2 prospects won't pan out and thus Jets will be looking to fill 1-2 holes with FAs.

Quality Picks that made significant contributions round 4 or higher:
    2011 round 4 Powell
    2011 round 5 Kerley
    2010 round 4 McKnight 1 pro bowl
    2009 Round 6 Slausson
    2008 Round 4 Lowery
    2006 Round 4 Brad Smith
    2006 Round 5 Washington
    2005 Round 4 Kerry Rhodes
    2005 Round 6 Dressen
    2004 Round 4 Cotchery
    2002 Undrafted FA Moore

    Edit:
    2012 Round 6 Allen
    2012 UDFA Harrison

Seems to me we have found about 1 gem every year in rounds 4-7 for us. All these players have made significant contributions and have had fine careers with the exception of Dressen who went to on to have a pretty nice career after he was cut by Mangini.
