Brady has Edelman, Amendola, Gronk, and the two rookies Dobson and Thompkins, and they signed LaFell. Add in any WR or TE they draft and Vereen, They are fine at receiver. They have been running matchup problem style passing attack over a traditional WR based passing attack for a while now. The Patriots extended him because they like his skill set, not for the image of a tight ship. I guarantee the Patriots will easily step out of that contract if they feel like it's not working out.
I thought he got hurt in either the 2012 or 2011 also. My mistake. Either way my point still stands, he's a player on the decline and his play proves it. Especially coming off a major injury like he suffered last year.
the patriots defense is going to be really good next year, we're just going to have to accept it and hope ours is better
I never said anything about their image. The odds that they restructured that deal and front loaded the guaranteed money they were sure to have had to pay to convince him to restructure versus back loading it are small and so are the odds of a guy his size not continuing to have leg issues and retiring early, pushing the cap hit forward. This was an early impact move just like the Revis signing and has the potential to hurt them in the next year if he retears the Achilles or has an injury elsewhere in his legs trying to compensate for the ankle's recovery.
He was a fringe top 10 player at his position in 2012. At this point i'd take both Richardson and Wilkerson over him, even if only for 1 year.
aye, exactly. I don't know how much was garanteed before, but at only 3 mil this deal seems more like a one year tryout more than anything else.
I would say more so you would have to hope that the Jets offense is improved as much as New Englands defense. Really want to see DeSean Jackson blow the top off of Revis.
I hope you don't bank on that because it's pretty slim that it happens, imo. The Jackson situation to me feels a lot like many potential trades or signings for the Jets that fell through eventually and in this situation I'm not sure I'd be disappointed
With Jackson if the Jets were to draft a tight end in the 1st or 2nd round, or without Jackson and with someone like ODB or Beckham and a tight end, its possible that the team can improve. It will also be nice having a backup QB who can actually play if Geno sucks.
Amazing many have given up on Geno. While I agree he had some bad moments but hopefully he can build from this. The way I am looking at is Mark provided us a good rookie campaign and then ended up a fluttering. Geno, perhaps will be the opposite?Especially with a better and expecting receiving corps and offense around him? I am neutral and will reserve judgment whether we trade for D-Jax or a CB just as Joseph. If we get D-Jax though not my preference, I definitely would get Ebron if he is still available (or if not, get a TE with a 2nd pick). Go strong offensively if folks are thinking we'll have a suspect DBs... If we are considering taking Dennard first round (no issue with me) but perhaps we can trade trade down to get additional 2nd and 3rd rd pick combo with one of 4th??? Regardless whether Jet significantly upgrade or worst then last year, games are not won or lost during the off-season. "We play the game".
I'm kind of in your camp about a lot of that but I don't agree with your first paragraph. Saying that Geno only had a few bad moments is minimizing the struggles he had last year and saying that Sanchez provided a good rookie campaign is ignoring the regular season of 2009. Geno had his good moments last season but for the most part he struggled and I'm trying to stay positive about his future. Sanchez had his moments in 2009 regular season but sucked through most of it, until the playoffs began and he started playing in spurts like a real clutch guy. Let's not turn a good beef shoulder into filet mignon, here
If he's getting 3mil guaranteed with the restructure then you add that to whatever guaranteed money isn't already accounted for in the cap on his previous contract. I don't know his old contract but I'm guessing that they pushed some cap numbers into future years
Yeah sure I judge him as an interior lineman. Not just a NT because the Pats don't play a basic 3-4 defense. They have both 3-4 and 4-3 looks like most teams do nowadays. He's actually listed as a DT anyway. Geno Atkins Gerald McCoy Kyle Williams Suh Nick Fairley Desmond Bryant Henry Melton Jurrell Casey Kevin Williams Mike Martin
Remember when vlad Ducasse owned wilfork? That was funny. I'd be surprised if he wasn't on the downside
Well we can agree to disagree that Sanchez actually sucked through most of his rookie campaign. I will agree he did suck sliding after scrambling. My gut is to stick with Geno. He did win have what 4 game winning drives? Let him work with some offensive weapons this time around. We will see if he executes. And the GM and staff put together a solid draft and trade(s) if needed and see what the 2014 folds before we decapitate the guy. If Rex wants a solid Defense, he'll get a couple. In fact he has had several first rounders in the last 3-4 years. Leave it up to the scouting department.
When wilfork cleaned out his locker a lot of patriot fans I know were saying that he was too old and coming of a major injury, especially given his weight. They said they didn't really want him back. Can't wait to see them take a bite of those sour grapes
It is just me but the Jets lacking depth in the ILB department? So who is really behind Davis and Harris? How good is Bellmore? I am reading in some reports that the "Jets Needs" are OLB other than the obvious WR, CB, OL and S....
