Looks like he's on the block. GET THIS BEAST........................................................................... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/26/report-dolphins-still-trying-to-trade-mike-wallace/ .... ...... no I'm kidding he can stay right there making lots o money with the Dolphins. I just wanted to point out one of the side effects of "winning" free agency for everybody that's ready to base jump off the World Trade Center sans parachute because we "lost" free agency. There is still a lot of offseason left and there is always next year. I mean its SB or bust but imho we could have gotten every single solid player in FA and would still have had to double cross ever finger and toe to make the SB. Also schadenfreude in full effect because, Dolphins.
I'm not sure I buy these reports. Even with his huge cap number it isn't like we are right up against the cap like some teams. Unless he is being an asshole behind the scenes IDK why we would be looking to offload him and go back to a mediocre WR corps.
I don't think they can take the cap hit from trading him, and I don't think anyone would take on his salary this year. He's getting Megatron money this year, and he's just nowhere near that level of production. I don't know why they're bothering to ask other teams about him, a trade would be ridiculous this year, they have to wait until 2015.
Exactly. Which is why I'm skeptical that we are "trying to trade him". It's probably more along the lines of the whole "everybody on our roster can be had for a price" type thing which is why there were also weird rumors of Dion Jordan and Wake being on the block. Anytime a new GM comes in they look at the roster and throw feelers out there
Yeah, it could also be a way of trying to pressure him into living up to his contract, or gauge interest for next year (when he will be tradable) so that maybe teams will come to them with offers at that point.
Absolutely. It's not about being a fan. I give an honest take on all players. He's average. His 2010 and 2011 seasons were strong. His last year in Pitt he did not perform well and the Dolphins came along and gave him a boatload of cash. You got average play out of him last year. His play has tailed off since 2011. You cant really argue that it hasnt.
Wallace was really good as a complimentary receiver with Ben Roethlisberger throwing him the ball. He wasn't as good as a feature receiver last year with Tannehill throwing it to him. What his contribution looks like in the future depends a lot on who is throwing him the ball and who is on the opposite side of the formation. Look at Antonio Brown last year after the Steelers made him the feature receiver. That tells you a lot about why Mike Wallace was who he was in Pittsburgh. Paying him like a #1 doesn't make him a #1, a fact that the Steelers tumbled too when they decided to let him go.
Tannehill missed him on a lot of deep balls last year and since that is his strength I don't think it is fair to act like Wallace is at fault for that. Even with all that said, we must have a different definition of what "average" means. I think he is definitely a good WR that can be great when he has a good QB throwing to him and is motivated. Never had less than 750 yards and that was in his rookie year
If we aren't pulling the trigger on Djax, I highly doubt we'll take on Wallace at an even higher salary. No reason to even look in Wallace's direction IMO.
I dont care what Tannehill missed or didnt miss, you can play that game with any player. If Mark Sanchez was any good we might have got more of a return on our investment on Santonio Holmes.... I'm not saying he's bad. Just not a legit "number 1" receiver (but I think that term is overrated anyway). Put it this way, he's not a top 10 type player at his position yet you guys are paying him like he is one. Bad investment.
I agree with everything you said here. I just don't think he should be considered average. Say he is in the 11-20 range I don't think that is average
I don't think he has been in that range since 2011 though. His career has been going downhill since the 2012 season started.
Average is just way to subjective of a measurement, someone will always disagree when calling an NFL player average. Personally, and I know you agree, I think the Mike Wallace signing was the worst football move since Hue Jackson traded 2 first round picks to the Bengals for a retired Carson Palmer. Despite being bigger than DeSean Jackson, his lateral movements are not as good. If Jackson can be had for $8 million a year, coming off a 1,300 yard season, Wallace at $15 million a year is embarrassingly bad. GM's who are in their death throws often make a lot of very poor decisions though, it just sucks for you guys that you have him under contract for 4 more years because Ireland panicked. I'm not trash talking here, but I genuinely think you guys are going to be in for a rough season.
Was a bad year for Florida GM's last year. Wallace got Ireland fired and the Revis move caused regime change in Tampa Bay. Never sell your soul for a player who makes his living out on the edge.
lol Wallace didn't get Ireland fired. Drafting poorly is what got him fired. Never having 2nd rounders pan out and never getting stars with your first rounder gets you fired
I mean Wallace certainly played into it but Ireland's body of work, especially with the draft is the reason he was relieved of duties. Not having a franchise QB makes the team look a lot worse too. Look at a lot of the successful teams in the league and if you take away their franchise QB they would be in for a rough season. Also the comparison to Jackon's contract, while relevant, isn't exactly apples to apples because Jackson obviously had a ton of baggage to drag down his value, as the team who just had him during a career year, dumped him allowing a rival to pick him up.
