Desean is no doubt a talent worth trading for, but with Decker & Kerley already on the roster, and what is considered to be a very strong WR draft, it doesn't make sense to trade for Jackson now. Doing so would almost prevent us from drafting a WR high, even if said WR was the BPA. On draft day, if the board doesn't fall right for drafting a WR in the first 2 rounds, then get serious about trading for Jackson.

Exactly, if we really want him do what we did with Chris Ivory. Pull the trigger on a trade if we know there is no one left on the board we would rather have than Jackson.

With Idzik being a new GM with lots of leash to play with, he may just pass on DeSean. He can afford to.

If Idzik were on the hot seat he'd be more likely to get DeSean now and be a better team this year, with 2015/16/17 cap dollars a question mark.

But with little pressure to win the SB this year, he may opt for a cpl of really good WRs from the draft and plan for next year and beyond and still have cap $'s to re-sign the 'sons.

Biggest problem is that we don't pull the trade for Jackson then all of a sudden we have a huge need at both WR and CB on top of everything else. There was a lot of discussion that if we got Djax we may go corner in the first... OK without Jackson where do we pick a CB? Where we could be taking a S or OLB?
We can't fill all the holes in the draft.

Whoever the Jets go into the draft with, they will have to be satisfied with those players starting the season. To go BPA you have to at peace with that.

Why doesn't it make sense though? If they trade for Jackson then they can use the draft to address other needs if they choose to.

Either way i'm all for drafting the BPA no matter what position he plays whether we end up acquiring Jackson or not.

I'm not sure if I'd say we would have a HUGE hole at DB or WR. Milliner/Walls/Wilson represent a young secondary that is as good as any in the middle half of the league. Walls filled in good for Milliner before Milliner caught on. No, this is not as good at Revis/Cro/Wilson (none were) but it's not a HUGE hole neither. They're somewhere in between, and possibly something Idzik is willing to run with for a year until he can get the right guys at the right price.

Same for Decker/Nelson/Kerley/Hill. Somewhere in the middle half.

We won 8 games last year with less.

If you wanna see what HUGE holes at WR looks like, check out Carolina.

I feel the same way. It may have been a desire at the moment, but you take a step back and think about it and you'd want your philosophy of building through the draft to be consistent. Its not like FA in basketball where one or two guys can get you a championship, you need to build a team. Jackson would make us a playoff contender, but for how long?

As Jets fans, we came from a fast rise to success to the depths of being the laughing stock of the nfl to being a border line playoff contender. Its understandable that we're impatient, but lets not go through the same ride. Lets get it for the long haul. to be honest, I'd be happy with an 9-7 season, but we compete in every single game. 8-8 will probably have Rex fired

to be honest, I'm disappointed by this offseason (we should have got James Jones and SOMEONE at cb), but there is a future. Lets give Idzik a chance

Eagles were dumb to turn that down. Frankly, I didn't even expect Idzik to be alright with giving up a 4th and 5th round pick for a WR who's known to be a bit of a headache and malcontent.

I'm leaning more towards building through the draft. I didn't really want DJax in the first place, but if we got him I wouldn't have complained.

I don't want Desean Jackson. He's too expensive; a malcontent, basically a more talented version of Holmes.

I have said I don't want to trade for Jackson regardless, but honestly the Eagles would be dumb to have taken that trade. Just last year a similar player garnered a 1st round pick and was signed to a large contract despite being called a "malcontent" at times, and his name is Percy Harvin. I bet most people here would say Seattle made a good move in making that trade. While DeSean's talent is obvious, the Jets are not talent rich enough to throw around first round picks, however if the Vikings can pull off a 1st for Harvin, the Eagles should be able to get a 1st for Jackson. It sounds like any news regarding him being released if un-traded was bogus and created by someone looking to lower his value. I would have parted with a 4th and 5th for him, maybe, but it was a lowball offer if it even happened.

I'm happy that Idzik offered a 4th & 5th for Jackson because it shows he was willing to bring Jackson in but only at the right price for us.

Now we can move on that Philly has rejected that trade offer and look to have a good draft to build up more depth. I see this as just another rebuilding year for us where we will get better and deeper but still have a few holes on the roster going into the season. By the 2015/16 season and the 2015 draft I fully expect to have a very competitive team on the field for the Jets, so long as e maintain the course with what Idzik is doing.

Say out of our 12 picks this year we walk away with a WR, TE, S & G who contributes to the jets. Then in 2015 find another few gems out of our picks like a OT, CB & LB, we'd be a deep team.

That's not unrealistic to think we can find 3/4 players to contribute to the team this season and next through the drafts. In fact that's being conservative with the high number of draft picks we have but you get the picture. Let's keep building and improving the team, we're going to be a serious force in the years to come.

Wow, so now we have gone from rumors to it being a fact that is what the Jets offered? If the Jets offered that we would now have Jackson and his remain 30M contract.

Never happened, not in a million years.

I've heard rumors that the best they have been offered is a 6th by somebody but I don't believe that either.

And now apparently Evan Mathis is on the trading block now? What are the eagles doing?

    Lmao

If Jackson ends up being traded, he is going to be fuckin furious the way that organization went about everything. Making him believe he's safe and that he's not going anywhere. That's rough man
