I'm sure everyone here would agree, but taking into consideration that the Jets only had 4 draft picks in 2007, 6 picks in 2008, 3 picks in 2009, 4 picks in 2010, and 7 picks in 2011 (obviously the standard), having 12 picks in the upcoming draft makes me extremely excited. IF we have a very good draft, we have the opportunity to draft very talented players and have them on the cheap rookie contracts for years. I'm stating the obvious, but damn it if it doesn't make me very excited for draft day. Obviously we must have some degree of luck to make the correct picks, but if we do, we are looking at an extremely nice future full of young talented players for very cheap. We just have to hope that the scouts do their homework and that Idzik makes the right decisions come draft day.

i still think its so gay that we were eliminated from the playoffs before like 3 or 4 of the teams ahead of us in the draft and we all have the same record. That last win was bitter sweet because it saved rex's ass but it kinda gave us an ugly pick in the draft.

I think so too; the money and years are the biggest factors, for the ending and new contracts.
Other stuff also matters in the secret formula, but the contracts are by far the most important factor (and that's fair, because some types of plays don't show up on the stat sheet at all, yet they're very valuable.)

No win against the Fins is bittersweet. They're all sweet like honey and filling as a prime medium rare steak.

As I said, the scouts need to do their homework, Idzik has to make the right decisions, and we need a little bit of luck. We had 8 picks in 2012 and 7 picks in 2013.

They will need a starting RB after Rice goes away for beating up his girlfriend.

You know where comp picks are placed at, right?

4th round comp pick = glorified 5th rounder.

6th round comp pick = glorified 7th rounder.

It is not a smart move to trade 4th round picks away to move up anyway. Jets struck a few times in 4th round with the likes of Leon Washington and Kerry Rhodes.

    ===========================

It just irritates me so much when I find people spewing out like 'we have so many picks so we should move up' bullshit. Grow up. Tannenbaum is GONE. Perish that thought for a few years. Jets are devastated in roster talent level. Jets need as many picks as they can to replenish it.

The Jets, through the years have actually done a decent job at finding solid contributors in rounds 4-7. Just a few that come to mind:
    Jason Ferguson
    James Reed
    Kerry Rhodes
    Brad Smith
    Leon Washington
    Joel Dressen (traded)
    Antonio Allen
    Jeremy Kerley
    Erik Coleman
    Matt Slauson
    Jerricho Cotchery

And I'm sure that there are others too, but keep in mind that there have at least been twice as many that have not worked out, but overall, I say that the Jets scouting department has done fairly well finding late round contributors, although no late round star yet.

Now we have 9 picks in rounds 4-7. Realistically, I don't expect all of those to be hits. The added picks do give us maneuverability, so we can trade our own 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th round picks to jump up a few spots to get that targeted player in those rounds. This is a nice luxury. And if we keep all 9 picks, the good thing is that at least there is a higher likelihood that 1 or more of those late rounders will be a solid find. Look if you get 3 solid contributors with those 9 picks, and 1-2 able bodied fill ins, then you've done well.

Exactly, everyone is saying how loaded this years draft is more than in recent years, lets just keep our picks and see if we strike gold.

Normally I'm not a fan of trading picks to move up (and yes, I know you can't trade comp picks I meant our own) but with 3 fourth round picks (two we can trade) it seems like a good possibility we could move around a couple of spots here and there to target specific guys. Obviously not in the first round or anything but still could be beneficial if there is an OLB or FS in the 2nd or 3rd round we could use that probably won't fall to us.

    Vikings got ripped off.

Packers got a free gift pick in top 100 for a guy they had no intention of re-signing anyway.

Discretion? Or do you expect the Jets to desecrate their draft with horrible pics?

7 selections in the top 150 picks sounds sweet now lets hope we hit on 3 or 4 and we should be stocked !

I think my rage would be less if we drafted a CB in the 3rd or 4th round considering we have three 4th round picks now. If we use our first or second I will be pissed unless they are the second coming of Revis (on the field, obviously).

The past? He wasn't the GM for Seahawks. People need to stop giving him credit for that.
