MoWilk and Richardson in due time. Besides you don't know what you have on your roster yet on a team full of young players. Some may develop into stars.

Think about what it's like to work for a company for a number of years and they bring in the new guy at a higher salary than you. You'd feel very unappreciated.

I don't wanna act like I know the details of your personal life, but if you think this is uncommon, I don't think you have ever worked for a largely successful company.

I'm not suggesting it's uncommon at all and can't say I haven't benefitted from it myself, but I think retaining your talent is much more important than going out and signing the best out there, especially in a team environment.

If I were running a company myself, I'd prefer a more organic growth as opposed to the quick hits in free agency, if that makes any sense.

And depends on what you mean by largely successful...my old company was one of the largest engineering firms in NJ, and then came crashing down due to improper political contributions. At least it happened in the summer!

But why can't we still grow organically while paying Jackson $9 mil? Regardless, Wilkerson is going to get paid. And we can afford that. Richardson is also going to get paid should he keep this up (and I think he will). But trading for Jackson doesn't mean we can't pay either of them.

Between Brick and David Harris, you are probably going to be cutting both of them before BOTH Richardson and Mo are due their deals. Heck David Harris is a free agent next summer anyway! When you have $30 mil in cap space, spending $10 mil on a top teir receiver is not an issue.

Oof, that's rough. For example, I work in the TV industry. I've busted my balls for years, and granted I just recently was rewarded for the hard work, I watched for years as top end guys were brought in to make the product better while I did the dirty work for a third the money. Guess what? When my time came, I got what I deserved.

If we don't get D-Jax, I won't be disappointed as long as we get a receiver (like Lee in the first round).

It doesn't work for every company, but a growth-from-within model has certainly seen some amazing successes as of late. At Chipotle, for example, 98 percent of salaried managers start as burrito rollers. ( http://www.denverpost.com/ci_21073776/chipotle-fuels-growth-by-motivating-workforce-promiting-from )

That said, the parallel to football (with a salary cap) may not be perfect. In this case I agree with you, though I think if we can bring in Jackson for a reasonable salary, we should.

I've loosened my stance on Jackson. I don't think he's as good as everyone seems to think he is, but I'm less concerned about the money now. It just burns me up to see such a WR heavy draft, and the Jets go and grab possibly 2 WRs in this free agency period.

Glad they made it up to you when the time came. That doesn't always happen, so it's always good to hear when someone gets their due.

For me, it ended up being a great career change. More money doing the same thing for the same boss and plenty of room to grow, and the bankruptcy period wasn't so bad. No work to be done, still got paid, and golfed whenever I felt like it haha.

People don't readily share salaries anywhere really, but info leaks. I can see it either way though. Depends on the situation. If you think the person that came in was competent, then I would think it would make you work harder. If you thought it was a farce, then in that case, I can understand being miffed. Obviously you still have to prove your worth either way, but I think depending on the player and the situation, it either be motivation or an insult.

I'm glad to hear that. As far as the football perspective, I think when you perform the way Mo has, your boss finds a way to make it up to you. And I have all the confidence in the world that Idzik will find a way. Mo's impact is undeniable. He's slowly becoming an elite defensive lineman. If it means cutting Brick or letting Harris walk to get Mo the money he deserves, I'm fine with it. And I think Idzik would be too.

Agreed. As long as we keep our guys, I'm fine with signing Jackson. I just like the idea of players starting and finishing with the Jets and creating a Jet legacy. Martin's the only recent Jet I can think of that was able to really start fresh, if that makes any sense, and that was probably because his best years were saved for the Jets.

There are a lot of guys that we have now that have shown potential that can create a Jets legacy. Mo, Richardson, Kerley, to a lesser extent Cumberland and Powell. Even Ivory can have that "clean slate" legacy Curtis Martin had. Now none of those guys are gonna be all-time greats like Curtis Martin was (maybe Mo or Richardson) but the point remains. And who is to say Jax can't have that clean slate Jet legacy? He's only 27...
