That "very good " corner wasn't drawing interest from anyone, he's been on 4 teams in 4 years and has contemplated retirement. would I have liked him? at the right price, not what the Giants ended up paying him.
Just like every other situation in which there were reports we were interested in a particular CB, I doubt this happens.
Not really, the new CBA's salary floor is based on a 4-year period, not year-to-year like in the old CBA. At the end of the 4 years, if you haven't spent 89% of the salary cap that was available to you, then you have to pay up the shortfall to the players who were on your team during those 4 years. You could theoretically go with all vet minimum and rookie contract players for 3 years, and then spend the $500m or whatever all in the 4th year, and you'd be in full compliance with the rules. Nobody's going to do that, but it's just an example to illustrate how the salary floor is really a non-issue. Since we have a d-line that will be expensive to re-sign, one of the main theories is that Idzik is reserving significant cap space (even up to $20m) to help us re-sign guys like Wilkerson later on.
i'd like to get excited about this possibility, but as of now not seeing any rumors online aside from this twitter dude claiming 'source'.
Wow, if this turns out to be true that guy is gonna have a huge influx of followers! Including myself.
This is pretty interesting. Did he play well last year??? Was he hurt at all?? I don't know. JJ's salary is 7.5MIL this year and 8.5MIL in 2015 so that is the cap hit. Nothing is guaranteed so the Jets can walk away in 2015 with no dead money if they traded for his contract. The Texans would have all the guaranteed money accelerate onto their cap for this season. Texans save 3.75MIL in cap space by cutting him but he counts 11.25MIL against the cap if they keep him. Again, not sure of his level of play or if he was hurt at all. I say a 5th round pick is a no brainer. Anything higher than that I'd like to swap picks in the 5th round with the Texans.
Maybe none. Maybe 1 or 2. The odds on 4 good years are low at this point. Almost nobody has 4 good years left a month shy of their 30th birthday. DRC could easily have no good years left as well. He's had one year in his career that pro-football-reference classifies as good and that was in 2009. He hasn't even been average by their AV measurement since then and that includes last year in Denver.
We're only on the hook with him for two years and we should probably get back a compensatory pick in 2016, which would end up being a 4th more than likely. I just don't see anyone else in FA or in the fourth round of the draft that I proves our secondary more than JJ would.
It sounds great in theory since I thought the texans had some minor interest in Sanchez and our desperation at corner. Not to mention they will be up against the cap. Problem is there is really no source for this and until there is it should be treated as purely speculation at best until a legitimate source arises. That said I was trying to come up with good trade partners and this one would fit.
And Joseph is 30 next month. Also not just DRC but lots of other guys worth looking into even at a higher cap hit.
Well I'm not the one worried about our cap situation but giving up an asset for a guy who is about to hit 30 who is likely on the decline or will be shortly doesn't sit well with me. I already dislike the idea of drafting a CB but given the choice I would rather resign Cro and burn a draft pick (preferably one of our 4th rounders) than trade a draft pick for a 30 year old CB with a maybe a year or two left in him. Any way we lose this just seems like the lesser evil.
After all the rumors about how we were most definitely doing this, and that, I don't believe a single thing I read until it becomes official. I highly, highly doubt this rumor is even remotely true, much less it happens.
At first this offseason I was texting my friends left, and right about rumors. Now I've just given up lol.
