This has been probably been brought before, but why are the Jets asking players to redo their contracts for cap
space, if they don't plan to spend the money?

Cap space is never a bad thing. It can be used to sign FAs, sign UDFAs, pay rookies, redo/frontload contracts coming due, sign players in-year, and at the very least carry into next year to provide more flexibility in a new FA period.

Saying we arent going to use it sounds a bit sour grapes.

We need a true leader on the field. thats what this team is really missing, has been missing. A standout vocal leader. Even if he isnt the best on the field..we need somebody like that on our roster. right now i cant think of anyone that would step up to be... Sheldon Richardson.. mayne in a few years.. He talks a good game and backs it up. Wilk is too humble for that role. We havent had one since Bart Scott.

Reported 70% chance Vick signs with us.

I would LOVE this move man.

Ugh. I'm sorry all I hate this move. I'm tired of QB controversy.

I'd much rather them say Vick is the wild-cat QB than give him a chance to start. And I hate the WC.

Vick has no shot at winning the job. And if he somehow does he'll get injured and Geno will retake the helm by default.

He just had a spinal fusion and still has not gotten medical clearance. This is no joke of a surgery and I while they are saying he will ultimately get cleared I just don't think he is worth rolling the dice on. He really did not have that good of numbers previously to be worth it in my opinion.

as would I in a relative sense. I think its the best bet for a competitor/viable replacement to Smith or any rookie if Smith declines next year.

the market is set on vet QB stopgaps.

Matt Cassel got two years 10.5 million.
Chad Henne, two years 8 million.
Josh McCown, two years 10 million.

so I'd expect Vick to get around 2 years 10-11 mill.

    70% to sign Vick...
Good thing they signed Brandon Pettigrew, and have HUGE interest in Emanuel Sanders.

well, this time he's actually coming though the door, and given the odds of the players that have done that so far and come out jets 70% isn't that off.:p

I wonder if they even had that much interest in Sanders in the first place...

Get read for the circus if Vick is signed. It's an awful decision. AWFUL.

Sure, have a QB that has NEVER played 16 games in a season, is turnover machine and would cause a circus. He'll mentor the other turnover machine we have in Geno and teach him his ways to suck and never be able to win a super bowll..

This is an AWFUL post but I'll refrain from venting and ask.. Would you feel better if we started a Sims and brought back Garrard to mentor him?

Exactly, I don't see why we don't sign Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees, or any of the free agents quarterbacks that have super bowl experience and can make Geno a super bowl quarterback. Anything less is a waste, right?

lol there wasnt even a circus in Philly when vick was there though.. He quietly sat the bench and supported his starting QB . Probably a bunch of acting by Vick but at least he wasnt causing drama or distraction

Vick's QB Rating is miles ahead of Geno's last year and waaay better if you take a past 5 year average. Vick is the better QB right now period. Geno has more upside obviously and is more durable but I am still one of those that believes we are not completely out of it this year and Vick, Jackson, Decker, Kerley and Ebron sounds like a pretty good offense compared to where we were last year as an 8-8 team.
Bring back Cro or trade for JJ and all of a sudden we look like a playoff team. Geno will be fine and could benefit from some time holding a clipboard, he looked like a deer in headlights at times last season.

The drama with Vick is over-rated. He's not a caner to a football team, I doubt it would be a problem. The Jets would make it what it is, a solid backup vet signing who would have a chance to compete for the starting job. Nothing more.
