I think one or two of the 4ths would get it done. He will get the Texans back some really nice pieces.

    A 4th is dicey. N-F-L. He hasn't played a full season since 2009.

If the Texans want done with him they'll do it for a 5th. They have major cap problems on the horizon and no easy way out. Having Joseph off the cap in 2015 plus rolling over his $3.75M savings from this year could be a life-saver for them.

i tend to agree that outside of Revis, he is as good if not better than any other FA CB.
i saw the same numbers on overthecap.com just now. would the Texans eat the prorated bonus of 3.75M for this year and next (7.5M total) by trading him though? doesn't seem like that saves them all that much, unless i'm not understanding how the prorated bonus is accelerated.

I love Joseph's game, and his attitude. He's versatile in where you can line him up, and is skilled in man to man as well as zone coverage.
I'm all for this move, and would give up a 3rd rounder and toss in Sanchez if needed.
this would really bolster the offseason..

Love it. I'm a big fan of Joseph's. I hope we can make a deal that makes sense. If we're spending on a CB, I actually prefer him to any of the guys that were in FA.

Could we restructure Sanchez's contract and trade him straight up for Joseph?

Can't find anything else anywhere about this, but I would LOVE this move. He is far better than all the corners that were on the market.

If they trade Joseph this year the entire $7.5M in prorated bonuses accelerates onto the cap this year. His current cap number is $11.25M and instead he would count $7.5M against the cap. Next year he'd be off the books.

If they keep Joseph without restructuring they have $11.25M on this year's cap and $12.25M on next year's cap.

I don't know the structure of his guarantees but OTC says that 48% of his money on the overall contract was guaranteed.

Edit: BTW we have no clear indication that this is even possible. With a few exceptions the reports about the Jets this off-season have been false and this is more than likely just another false trail.

I asked my son what he knew about him and I was told he's a 94 in Madden. Wtf?!

Is trading for him all that better than signing DRC? Just curious.

I like Joseph, but what would we have to give up?

Was hoping we wouldn't have to use up more draft picks to address the CB position but we might have no choice now.

I will laugh a bit if the FO homers applaud trading assets for an older, more expensive CB than we could have got in FA.

I'd do the trade if it was for our fourth, and we get to keep TBs 4th. It would make the Revi$ trade look like this...

    OUT - Revi$

    IN - Richardson (DPOY), Jonathan Joseph (@7.5MM/ 8.5MM - 2YRs) & move up 11 spots in the 4th round.

I'd prefer the fifth to be going out, but Joseph is a top-8 (maybe better) CB when healthy and his deal dies in 2 years. It allows Milliner to maintain the #2 and continue to grow into that #1 as Joseph's deal expires. I'd hate to split hairs between a 4th (when we already own a 4th) and a fifth in landing us a true #1 CB.... Just seems greedy. Plus, we would be paying him inline with what Verner got and not DRC/Davis/Revis money. I hope there's fire where there is smoke with this one.

There wasn't a better CB besides Revis on the market that is better than Joseph. DRC had one strong year last year, Joseph has been good for more years.

I'd be cool trading down from 18 to 33, pickup Cooks/Beckham Jr(Whoever is available of the two) and give up the Jets 4th round pick as well in a trade.

Consider me one of those. I think he's a much better fit than anything that was out on FA. Older? Yes. Better? I think so. I didn't want to spend money for the sake of spending it, but I think he's just a great fit. And giving up one of our 12 picks (assuming it's not too high), is fine with me. Of course this all depends on the contract structure.

If they like him better that is all that matters, you'd rather overpay for a guy they didn't like that much?

I just think it is funny people crying over paying a very good CB $8mil a season is a gross over payment but will be over the moon paying a guy millions more AND having to give up a draft pick which has a pretty big inherent value.

If you are talking about the 30th ranked CB vs a top 5 CB then the difference is pretty big...I'm just not convinced that the difference is that large.

These sources seem sketchy at best, but I would LOVE this trade. Joseph is a proven #1 corner.

Joseph would actually cost the same for the Jets against the cap as DRC would have and Joseph is a better CB than DRC.
